gets the result but a lot of questions early season for me after watching that one
dont want to judge it all on bases of one match so well see next time of things are improved in the benchmark game
25k qf is useful points tho especialy this year and early in this year

As said before, I'm not sure it's coincidence that Freya and Jodie have marked similar weaknesses and are coached at the same place (and even Ryan Storrie to some extent too)

However, all three have a lot of potential and are still young, I've a lot of time for them.

I watched bits and pieces of Jodie's performance and didn't see it the same way as you Tom. Yes, it's her first tournament this year, and as a result there was some erraticness in her play, but I also thought there was much that was promising too. When she was rallying well, she was hitting her shots well, and with enough power to keep Ellie moving and she was creating enough angles or down the line shots to have a good number of winners. Her serve wasn't brilliant, but not bad either, and she at least got rid of most of her DFs early in the match. She held clutch games in the first and final sets when she needed them, and in the last game of the match she broke Ellie with some really dominant play.

Elllie Douglas is a useful junior player. She beat EWS relatively easily, and was competitive throughout the match and more than capable of keeping rallies going if she was not moved around the court enough. So I thought there was plenty of potential there, enough for Jodie to keep working on it and improving. And considering Jodie was in a protective boot not so long ago, I was relieved to see her mobility around the court too!

Yes, don't know the issue or the timescale with the protective boot but Jodie will clearly have had an interrupted close season.

So let's maybe give her a bit more of a pass for now and she'a got the wins so far.

you say youll give them more time and people ask you to give them more time
those questions are about that recovery and the fundamental game
she was limping at times between points
lets see how things shake out in time exactly like i said

The good news for Jodie is that this win puts her up to LR410, which is one more than her CH. in addition she will lose no significant points until June, so every point Jodie gains until then beyond 1, will be in the plus column for her. So as long as she is able to stay fit, with the questions being asked there, she should be able to maintain her upward rise.

The not so good news is that Maia at LR305, 105 places ahead of Jodie in current GB #9 position, has 145 points compared with Jodie's 75. In short Jodie needs to be able to make W25 QFs and above to make significant progress. Achieving one or two more wins here would be a good start.

I look at GB rankings as much and probably more than many ( I am just now provisionally doing some of the GB 28/01 rankings ) but I am pretty sure Jodie is much more concerned about just getting good wins and advancing her WR than catching GB #9.

Edit : though for what it is worth and our interest re Jodie closing in on Maia, Maia has 30 points coming off on 11/02 for her Glasgow 25K runner up spot last year, provisionally dropping her to 115 points. Neither then has anything further of note to come off before May / June.

appleton/scholsen take 1st set 75
emilys 15k doubles was great and then her singles started to lift to match it somewhat
now she starting to make a mark in 25k dubs after strugled to do thus far having finded it hard to win almost any match dispite lots of 15k titel - she now gone qf sf sf qf* in her last 25k a big improovement
so maybe if she can esrtablish a foothold at 25k dubs her singels will follow suit like it did at 15k
75 *21

Emily App + win their doubles QF 7-5 6-3 so extending Tom's progression series above to at least SF in her last 3 25K doubles. A final would be a nice step again.

I think also that her early year singles in last week's 15K and her tight loss to the WR 300 here have been quite encouraging. That 25K singles win surely can't be too far away.

I was not focusing on GB #9 Indy, all I was really interested in is that in order to advance another 100 places up the rankings Jodie has to double her points. Gain a few more wins here and it would clearly contribute to that doubling of course.
