Once a year!

I think Indy hopes that he "slips in a couple of intelligent comments" more than once a year smile

Well done to Vicki and Destinee - great results !

I think our board member, Matt James, is out there as coach so, if I've got that right, well done to him too !

Connor has a familiar round 2 opponent for regular readers of this section - one of his many matches with Brits was a loss to Aidan McHugh here last year, but he has moved up to JWR 8 since then

Arnaldi/Passaro (ITA) v Fearnley/Thomson

Girls Doubles R1 (L32)

Sorry got distracted by daughters birthday kick (eating/making) and Indi slipped in with some intelligent comments!

I can see how a birthday kick would be distracting?!

How does 7 players in singles draws (4 plus 3) stack up to our normal entry level - seems higher than recently for an overseas slam but I dont really follow Juniors so maybe have the wrong perception?

The last time we had 7 players was the 2017 Australian Open and there hasn't been a higher figure for a long time (I have checked the last decade, and nothing beats it).

Thanks David,  and some good results overnight also.

Emma on serve *2-3 against Himari Sato. Sato looks like she's about 12 years old but she hits a nice clean ball. This is a potential banana skin as Sato was quite highly rated a couple years ago. She's struggled to keep up with her peers, but the talent is obviously there.

Wow, great clutch win for Harry W over the 10th seed, 11-9 in the MTB.

And Jake too, beating the 12th seed in three.

Well done, lads.

5/7/ through is very impressive, probably the best for a long time in a slam outside the UK - just a shame that one of the two not to make it was our best hope of a title

(16) Eliot Spizzirri (USA) d. (Q) James Story 6-2 6-2

Harry Wendelken d. (10) Gauthier Onclin (BEL) 7-5 6-7(5) 7-6(9)

R2

Jacob Fearnley v (WC) Ken Cavrak (AUS)
(Q) Connor Thomson v (4) Filip Cristian Jianu (ROU)
Jiri Lehecka (CZE) v Harry Wendelken

Girls R1 (L64)

Himari Sato (JPN) d. (16) Emma Raducanu 6-2 7-5
Destinee Martins d. (10) Hong Yi Cody Wong (HKG) 6-4 6-3
Victoria Allen d. (14) Sada Nahimana (BDI) 4-6 6-4 6-1

R2

(Q) Veronika Pepelyaeva (RUS) v Destinee Martins
Victoria Allen v Annerly Poulos (AUS)

Disappointing for a Emma but she continues to build up plenty of experience in her first year playing at junior slam level, since RG she has either made the QF or list to Clara. Pretty consistent just a hiccup after a very good run in the warm up tournament.

Very good for Connor making some progress here, hopefully he will get to play all 4 junior slams before starting at University of South Carolina, a deep run in one would set him up nicely to be competitive right from his freshman year. Fingers crossed for Vicky here. I cant remember her plans?
