Week 5 - Challenger ($54,160+H) - NSFP Launceston International, Tasmania (hard)

Jay has started off like a favourite, breaking Ito's first service game to 15.

*2-0

I woke up just in time to watch Jay win two games in a row to take the decider 7 - 5. Fanbl****ytastic. Back to sleep now.

Great to see Jay building some momentum, he is still young with loads of potential for development. It would be lovely to see him going deep in Challengers week in week out and winning rounds in 250s, making the slam main draw either in Paris or New York a realistic target! Fab result very exciting!

Excellent win, and his Italian opponent next is beatable. Tennis abstract have jay as favourite and indeed favourite to reach the final.

Top 200 live ranking as well!

I'm very pleased to see Jay's wins - the string of losses at the back end of last year was concerning but it appears to be all good now. Onwards!

L16: (15) Jay Clarke WR 212 beat (2) Tatsuma Ito (JPN) WR 141 6-2 6-7(3) 7-5

QF: (15) Jay Clarke WR 212 vs (12) Lorenzo Giustino (ITA) WR 227

Jay was 2-4 down in the 3rd set, when he was broken at 5-5 Ito threw his racket from the baseline and it hit the umpires chair, narrowly missing the ball boy. Very lucky to not get defaulted.

Great win for Jay, is this who Evo beat in the first round of Aus?

Excellent win. Jay beginning to show some form now his health/fitness issues seem to be resolved. Great to see.

He is up to 198 in the live rankings, although there are still several others below that could catch him this week.

I saw & heard the racket go but as only watching on tiny screen I couldnt see where it went but I realised it had travelled some distance.

My goodness, I have just watched that again on replay on a large screen.  Quite amazing he wasn't defaulted, as you say, it only just missed the ballboy.

Yes, as you say Jimmy, great win!

And, yes, Ito's the one Dan beat too smile

Ito does sound maybe a bit lucky not to get defaulted. I have in the past defended Ostaopenko ( vs Naomi B ) when her slightly frustrated idly tossed to the side racket bounced and touched a ball ball at hardly any pace, but here there seemed much more velocity.

Well done, Jay. Hopefully he is now able to fully compete much more healthily than he apparently was latterly last year and can now get back on a good upward trend.

Cracking win!    $1,460 & 15 ranking points now guaranteed.   smile  Jay & Giustino are two of only four seeds left in the draw!

Certainly a good opportunity for Jay - Lloyd Harris and Dudi Sela are both in top half of draw and probably biggest threats if Jay can keep this form going
