Last week Marni Banks drew the top seed in round 1. This time the meeting will be in round 2, if both win their openers (different top seed though - a strong Swiss girl, who got 7 games off the eventual Australian Open winner Clara Tauson last week)
Brilliant win for Marni - probably a career best in ranking (her opponent is top 50). She is joined by Felix, who has to negotiate a quarter-final against a recent G2 finalist
R2
Felix Gill d. (WC) Zakaria Ben Brahim (TUN) 6-0 6-4
(2) Jaime Caldes (ESP) d. Joseph White 7-5 6-4
Felix plays another Spaniard, who benefited from an early retirement in his match, while Marni plays the one remaining girls seed, who wins a high percentage of her matches. They play semis and finals tomorrow, because of rain earlier in the week. And there is further good news to report, as the ITF has reversed the doubles final result
Boys SF
Felix Gill v Alejandro Garcia (ESP)
Doubles F
(2) Breysach/Gill (FRA/GBR) d. Garcia/Mansilla Diez (ESP) 6-4 6-3
Well done, Marni. A G2 final. That's smashed her previous best counter.
Aubane is only 16 but made the finals of a 15k a few months ago and is well known in France. (Her brother, Titouan, is one to watch too). Selena J is also a good national player.
