Week 8 - ATP 500 - Claro Rio Open - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (clay)

Yeah, it was very strange. Cam not happy with Munar later on, asking him why he was making him stop. Went from 3-1* to *3-6, Cam saved one MP, but not the next and lost 6-7(6) 7-5 6-7(3).

Im sorry to bleat on but thats really wound me up.

Its not the first time Lahyani has made it about him. I dont think he even gave Munar a warning for throwing his racket at the net!

Then, not for the first time Munar asked the umpire to check a mark on a serve even thought Cam wasnt bothered. A clear and obvious attempt to slow him down. Clear gamesmanship.

I play at club level and Ive got to say I dont know if Id have kept my cool in that situation, Id be absolutely livid.

tough one for Cam. Real chances as outlined above. suspect gamesmanship by Munar in third set tie break. Still all but matching Munar playing on clay at well above his ranking He has wins over Fognini, Mayer, Pella, Delbonis, Andreozzi, Cecchinato means both that Munar is no mug on clay and that this bodes well for European clay season for Cam

Luke & Jonny through in the doubles take on the 2nd seeds next. However Cam loses out in the MTB in his doubles.

I am sure Cam will be disappointed but as you say, there is no shame in such a close defeat against a clay court specialist.  Does Cam already have plans for the clay season in Europe and more importantly (for me at least), is he aiming to play Barcelona and/or Madrid (assuming his ranking allows).

That's a terrific effort, given that they were a set down when the match was delayed and then they had to wait two days to complete it.  They are tweeting that this was their first win at ATP500 level.  Their rise has been so rapid, I sometimes forget how new this all is to them.

And although it'll be  tough , one more win will move them to 6thin the doubles race.

As an aside Joe Salisbury is now number 2 brit in live rankings

Interestingly, tennis abstract rates Bedene as current favourite to win Rio, would be nice to see I think
