I know I'm an old fogey, but I honestly think Harriet would have been much better off staying in Europe. As I said before I'm sure she'll get plenty of opportunities to play WTA events in the UK this summer, and a couple of good scoring tournaments at Bolton and Sunderland would have boosted her chances of getting enough points to qualify by right. I can't see the point in flying half way round the world to play one match and then flying home again, with all the disruption to sleep patterns that causes.
I would probably get as much / more joy if Harriet beat a qualifier routinely in the first round of Sunderland, but credit where it's due, that is a fantastic win and certainly makes the trip more worthwhile and also bodes well for the Fed Cup on the back of that 60k dubs title last week. You'd have to think Harriet would surely be a certainty to play in the dubs at the Copper Box. Oh and Valeria likes playing in the UK, can we claim her assuming she hasn't already played for Russia?
If they do stay in Mexico a while longer (and hopefully for their sake they do), Sunderland would probably be a doubt for both of them and Maia may well end up being seeded. You could also have 400+ in the main draw directly.

Must admit I was kind of thinking the same, especially with Monterrey being probably one of the more difficult places to quickly acclimatise to.
So really glad that the doubles has given her something and more top level doubles play before the Fed Cup could be useful.
As wolf said earlier "nothing ventured, nothing gained'' so again glad there has been some gain.
Yes, that really was some turnaround in that match to take out the No 1 seeds. I watched on Bet 365 and rather annoyed with myself for not taking a small punt when odds were massive ! Very happy for them anyway.

Was it streamed? I was also following the scores on Bet365 from about 3-4 second set, but didn't check to see if there was a video. I think the highest in play odds I saw was 16/1, so that would have brought significant profit from a cheeky 20p flutter.

Looks like I have to eat my words!! I hadn't even realised she was playing doubles until I saw someone tweeting about the win last night, but that's a great result and certainly makes the trip worthwhile. Hoping she can get another win tonight, and I totally agree she should be first choice for doubles in the Fed Cup.
