Week 21 - ITF (W25) - Jerusalem, Israel - Hard

Well done Jodie. Unfortunate draw for Emily in a weakish field. Way the luck of the draw goes I guess

Emily had two break points to get it back on serve as well, but Jodie held on 7-5 6-3

Was getting concerned it was going 3 when Emily had chances to get it back on serve, but pleased Jodie has advanced. Yep, a shame about the draw. Although I know little about the 2 Israel girls who played to face the winner of this, you'd like to think had the Brits and Israeli's been split the other way round then we'd have had them meeting in the L16 instead.

Jodie is down for a Spanish hard event next week, is it the grass next for EWS?

Both next round matches represent good opportunities for the GB women. Yes, very tough on Emily that first round, and a good showing until she woke up from her dream leading 5-2 in that first set.

R32: Samantha MURRAY (GBR) 539 beat Bojana MARINKOVIC (SRB) [IR] 743/83 (CH:509 Oct 17) 6-3 6-3
R32: Jodie Anna BURRAGE (GBR) [3] 277 beat Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (GBR) 476 7-5 6-3

R16: Samantha MURRAY (GBR) 539 vs Maya TAHAN (ISR) [IR] UNR/41 (CH:587 Dec 18)
R16: Jodie Anna BURRAGE (GBR) [3] 277 vs Shahar BIRAN (ISR) UNR/254 (CH:841 Dec 18)

She'll be looking to lift her third W25 doubles trophy in a row with Sofia first, Ace!

Sam is down for Spain next week, as is Emily's doubles partner Sofia - but it looks like Emily is taking a much-needed break.

Sam and Emily are both entered for Surbiton, but are well down the alt list at #37 and#38.

I suspect those two are looking to find a way into higher ranked tournaments - they do have a target in mind (I think I saw something on Instagram)

Yes, Sofia made a comment to that effect. I thought she and Em might at least try and play doubles together at Surbiton, but Sofia is in fact now in qualifying for the Polish W60+H that week.

Sofia posted on Instagram play was stopped because temperatures hit 42 degrees. Wow

Maybe a bad omen after Katie's heroics today as a 6/1 outsider, but I was just having a quick look at the odds tomorrow and Jodie is a massive 1/33 favourite to beat her WC and Sam is 1/7 to beat her local opponent. Was just having a quick look at their recent results (opponents) and I see Alice G beat them both in South Africa last December on her way to a 15k final.

Sam is on at 8am UK and Jodie is due to follow on that court, heat permitting of course.

Sam a set up 6-1 1-1... keep going (and let Jodie on court before the sun burns up)

Accuweather says it is already 32 degrees out there, with a high of 35, so it must be a lot hotter on the hard courts.

Sam 1 game away. 6-1 5-4* - there's been 4 breaks in this second set, so hopefully a 5th here, Sam advances and Jodie gets on court.

6-1 6-4. Sam's opponent to be determined later.

Jodie will face the 5th seed in the QF, should she get past her upcoming opponent.
