With the Italian juniors and young players on the men's/boys' side doing SO well, it's interesting to follow their young players on the female side too. Young Lisa (born 2003) is obviously one of their starlets.
I was going to say similar CD. Pigato was a 2/7 favourite here, so no surprise in that respect, and while 4 years after an all Italian US Open final, Camila Giorgi, currently ranked in the 90s, is their only current top 100 players, there was an 18 year old who won a W60 title a couple of days ago (beating a certain Sara Errani in the final), so there does seem to be some hope for them on the women's side for the years to come .
I see Ali's conqueror Pigato beat top seed Vismane 3 and 1 a little earlier (similar score to Ali). Vismane has just turned 19 and took a set off (pre-Surbiton) Jodie in their Israel W25 final 6 months ago, so Pigato really could be one to keep an eye on.
