Week 49 - ITF (W15) Norman, USA Hard

Jasmine was a break up in the first set (at 4-2, I think) but ended up losing the set in a TB

Nell lost her first set 5-7 but is now 3-0 up against the top seed

Part of you feels 'real shame', as she was 4-0 up in the second and she 'should' have won at least that set and forced a decider.

But to lose 5-7 5-7 to the top seed is a very creditable performance. So well done on that.

But a win for Jasmine

And hard fought too:

6-7(4) 7-5 6-3

Well done !

That was a great effort from Nell, though no doubt she will be disappointed she did not force that decider. Still she was playing someone close to the top 500.
And a wonderful win for Jamine in just over 2.5 hours. Depending on how much gas she has left in the tank Jasmine may have a good chance in her next match too though Failla did put out the 2nd seed in the first round.

R16: Nell MILLER (GBR) [Q] UNR/1948 lost to Pamela MONTEZ (USA) [1] 510 (CH:454 (Sept 19) 5-7 5-7
R16: Jasmine Amber ASGHAR (GBR) [Q] UNR/UNR def Madeleine KOBELT (USA) 1115/740 (CH:893 Nov 16) 6-7(4) 7-5 6-3

QF: Jasmine Amber ASGHAR (GBR) [Q] UNR/UNR vs Jessica FAILLA (USA) 999 (CH:691 Sept 16)

Nell and partner come through a nail-biter in the doubles though, winning the MTB 10-8 :)

From both Nell's and Jasmine's performances here, one thing this tournament in far away Oklahoma shows is the value of W15 tournaments to help players get a foot on the ranking ladder. Both these two players should have WTA rankings. They are good enough and have had rankings previously, losing them only because of the lack of appropriate playing opportunities.

I wonder if anyone at the LTA even knows these two are playing here this week, or can care a toss? It really does show up the myopia and obstinacy in the LTA's thinking that it still won't reconsider the doing away with all tournaments in the UK at this level.

The LTA have sent out this email today as to how they 'recognise successful performance in the UK and provide the opportunity for players to earn wild cards into our Professional events in 2020'.

Alongside each of the ITF World Tennis Tour swings there will again be a number of wild card feed up opportunities linked to domestic British events. The purpose of these is to recognise successful performance in the UK and to provide the opportunity for players to earn wild cards into our Professional events in 2020.

A lot simpler if they just had a few W15 tournaments!!!
