I think the issue with setting the polls off at 6 pm in the evening is that we end up getting most of the votes that same evening , as people have time to browse etc, and then of course, we end up with a quiet end. Same number of votes just distributed in a front loaded way...the mens semis set off at midday ish and are showing as a slower build, will probably get to the same point but as a slow longer burn. My ideal would be to have loads of activity as a crescendo and some excitement, so maybe my ideal would be set off a poll later in the evening, get one or two that night but then see them build the next day and evening. The plan for the final polls tomorrow evening fits that model so it will be interesting to see how they all work out!

Womens polls closed, decent voting again, 23/24 in each group.

Tie break polls now in 2 of the groups, until 11, unless the group with 3 has a tie of 2 players when I will extend it and make the voting move through until midnight!

One for night owls, if you arent a night owl make sure your favourite gets your vote now!

A reminder the womens semis close at 6pm this evening, Thursday. Ties play offs , if required, will run from then to 11pm.

Mens semis will be posted tonight around 6pm as well, running until tomorrow evening.

Work commitments  moving around so slight plan change.

I will now post the mens semifinals sometime mid pm before 3 pm certainly today, so a few hours earlier than planned.

I am then on meetings/calls with the States until around 7pm, so will aim to close the ladies semifinals and start any tie play offs slightly later than planned, around 7 pm instead of 6pm. Just in case anyone goes on the board looking for what the final results are and to vote in the tie play offs. From experience, the tie play offs will still be fine to run through to 11, most folks voting vote in the first couple of hours and we dont want these things running until midnight!!

So:

Mens semis - posted to start before 3 pm

womens semis - close around 7 pm

womens semis ties playoffs - posted around 7 pm and close around 11pm

Mens semis will finish around 1 pm tomorrow. Any tie play offs will run after that to perhaps 6 pm. Finals will go up in the evening tomorrow for both mens and womens, depends on how my evening goes!

10 of the 32 womens players failed to score, make it 8 out of 30 of those who had got through the previous round.

Henin and Clijsters where two of the top first round scorers, both went out in the semis. Li Na was the other to reach double figures and she is embroiled in a play off. Unpredictable!

Will be 8 countries in final, or 9 if you count Navratilova as Czech. Eclectic mix.

So remember, mens semis all close at 1 pm today. None currently heading for tie play offs, although a few votes could change that, I reckon from past patterns there are still potentially 2 or 3 out there for each group that could influence things this morning.

From the first two rounds of polls, excluding tie breaks, Steffi had most total votes with 17. But it was very close, Li was 2nd highest with 14, excluding ties play offs. Reckon the ladies final is genuinely anyones to win.

In order of era, weve got Bueno, Goolagong,  Evert, Navratilova,  Graf, Sabatini, Mauresmo, Radwanska and Cibulkova in this final. Probably each player will have at least 1 h2h record with another player here.

Not to worry, if there are mens play offs they will run circa 1 pm to 5pm and then any tiebreaker if needed til 6, so remember to try and check in during the pm if you get chance. Finals will be set up soon after 6 before the evening takes over my family life!
