Trump

Being reported Qatar Royal Family have gifted Trump a 747/800 for air force one, which Trump can them use afterwards. Really? Is that allowed? The gift?

No, but who is going to tell him?

There's clearly no bottom to Trump's barrel!  furious  The article looks at the legality of his accepting the gift.  He couldn't even resist overplaying the nature of the "gesture" by describing it as a gift "free of charge" in his Truth Social post!  disbelief

Read this & despair!

There's probably a case to be made for the claim that the rich countries of western Europe have for too long relied on US funding & US troops for their security & we need now to face up to the fact that "pax Americana" is dead, but, so far as I can tell (without actually reading it!), the document setting out Trump's new national security strategy apparently has the temerity to suggest that Europe is itself the problem - a decadent continent facing "civilisational erasure" whose governments must be replaced by "patriotic parties" more to Washington's taste!  That smacks of a desire for the US to interfere in European politics rather than disengage from it.

Did we ever imagine that "Nanny" would desert us?  Whether or no, we (& the other European countries which make up the so-called Coalition of the Willing) need to decide what we are going to do in "her" absence, bearing in mind that, as a result of the US's abrupt decoupling from Europe as our security guarantor, Ukraine is almost certainly lost.  $64,000 question:  have the Europeans sufficient combined backbone to tell Trump where to get off?!!  Somehow I doubt it.  cry

So what, precisely, has the orange clown contributed to the performing arts in the US that warrants the change of name?  disbelief  OK, JFK  contributed nothing, either, but the circumstances surrounding the original naming were slightly different...

I feel that they should stop mucking about and just rename the whole country as Trumpton.

Excellent idea - they could then make an animated tv programme about it!

Having experienced dementia at first hand with my mother a few years ago, I feel that it's an insult to genuine "ordinary" sufferers to seek to excuse Trump's egregious behaviour by describing it as demented, so shall we go for unhinged, certifiable, cracked, round the bend or just plain bonkers (though that's perhaps too charitable) instead?

I like all your words, SC

But I also think they imply that he's not in control of himself, that he's mentally ill, etc etc

Which may have a grain of truth - but also sounds too much like a 'reasonable excuse'

Whereas I prefer words like immoral, unprincipled, cruel, dishonest, dishonourable, corrupt, fraudulent, base, vicious, brutish, etc etc

(I could go on for a LONG time)
