Week 41 - Ferrero Challenger 80 (€44,820) - Alicante, Spain (clay)

Interesting first set, that.

With Liam making too many errors in the middle, a break down, looks like the other guy had it in hand although still quite close.

And then Lorenzo tightening up at the end, and Liam not rolling over and going away, and suddenly two breaks for Liam

7-5

Liam nearly had 3-0 but lost his serve so now 2-1

Maybe worth noting that Giustino is ATP 140 today, with a decent rise because of that mammoth first round win at RG. (And Liam is ATP 203)

Which would have made him 2nd seed, not 7th (if the other guys' rankings haven't changed)

Not from what I can see confuse

(NB I didn't mean you personally to note it but the thread, for people watching the match now)

Good win for Liam. Should that put him back in the top 200?

Now, THAT was enjoyable

Well played, Liam.

Some really good serving to get himself out of trouble, twice at BP down, in that last game.

And some very solid play in general, constructing his points well.

He certainly deserved to win, IMO, overall.

That last game was a little tense

Good news to come home to after a long day out - and almost driving past the venue in the process.

Yep, I thought Liam held it together incredibly well, given the match points that escaped and the break points he faced.

Coric show him at WR198 on live rankings. But there are a few players very close to him that are playing this week, so it may or may not happen.

Either Polansky (WR 211) or Machac (WR 218) in the next round. Decent chance to go further an consolidate that possible place in the top 200. Would have to go one further though to make the SF which is when spectators are allowed in. That may require beating the top seed.
