Week 42 - ITF M25 - Hamburg, Germany (indoor hard)

Anton took the second set easily, 6-2

With Guinard having a true sulk-fest.

But went down 0-2 immediately in the third before breaking back.

Never heard Anton shout animatedly in Russian before (I assume it's Russian, the sound quality isn't good, and given his family it must be)

I also assume he has a Russian coach now because he's shouting a lot of it at the coach.

Don't know if anyone knows anything more about his coach???

Certainly is being encouraged to play a pretty aggressive, front foot sort of game.

Real ding-dong but, again, Anton is getting slightly the better of it, with Manuel serving very well on BPs.

But our Russian Brit finally takes a break point and now leads *4-3

A really good match from Anton.

Another win over a player ranked a long way ahead of him.

And he deserved to win.

I'd be really curious to know if he's got a new coach, or a new joint coach - watching him this today, there are several things in his game that have really changed .... maybe just normal development or maybe a new voice. Because it doesn't have a JTC look to it. (I would have said European in style, even before the shouting to the possibly Russian guy in his camp). Might be quite wrong, of course....

I noticed him doing that during the British indoor events! Very clever because he could say something really rude and no-one in this country would know what he was saying!!! biggrin

A definite step up for Anton this week though - great to see it.

Particularly as it's his 1st outing since lockdown.

Good week for Anton, is he playing anywhere in the next few weeks to build on this?

Not sure of Anton"s future schedule.

For now these SF 6 points will take him up to 52 points, level on points with Aidan McHugh as GB #15/16, and should push his CH up into the 550s.

There seems potential to go very much higher, especially if and when he leaves his studies for a time and can give more time to his tennis.
