Week 44 - Rolex Masters 1000 - Paris (Bercy), France (indoor hard)

Not as easy a win as we might have hoped, but a win is a win

Here is the current live Race standings

5. Koolhof and Mektic 2145
6. Peers and Venus 2060
7. Murray and Skupski 1890
8. Kubot and Melo 1780
9. Melzer and Roger-Vasellin 1670
10. Purcell and Saville 1665 (out of Paris)
14. Gille and Vliegen 1050

Rest of pairs are all out of the running, so it is still 4 from 7 but realistically the final 2 pairs are going to be hard pressed to make it! So really , 4 from 5

Presumably Dan???

"Left shoulder injury" to Dan, yes.

My apologies, Mr Evans. I should never have doubted you.

A pity none of Ken, Jonny, Dom or Luke signed in for alternates as they would have got in. At their ranking level they can't really afford to pass up chances for Masters events. I don't think it's asking too much for them to go and sign in, I've been looking for a few days thinking they must have a chance if they were there. But maybe there were Covid related travel problems.

L16:  (4) Lukasz Kubot & Marcelo Melo (POL/BRA) CR 22 (11+11) vs Jamie Murray & Neal Skupski CR 50 (24+26)

The boys of course lost in straight sets to Kubot & Melo in the final in Vienna last week.

Couldn't a few other pairs (Herbert/Mahut, significantly) win Paris and then sign in for Sofia?

Website I was using showed them as out but I'm not sure the logic. I didnt look down the list beyond there but Daniel and Oswald and krajicek and skugor , bopanna and shapo could do as you say, but it is unlikely

https://live-tennis.eu/en/atp-doubles-race

Those with a cross against the name are apparently out.

Edit , daniel and Oswald are out

And bopanna and shapo weren't playing so those crosses arent totally reliable. But it means it's down to pretty much that original list now.

Not British but...in the Singles Race, there are 3 players left for 1 place - Schwartzman, PCB and Raonic.

Tomorrows scheduling:

Schwartzman on at 11am on central, first match. 5 matches follow.
Raonic on 2nd on second court
PCB on last on second court.

The only two singles on second court.

It seems like although there is a Race (or Battle as it is called this year), that it is clearly shunted to the sidelines, which i thnk is shortsighted. Given there are no crowds, surely they can be more creative in what they choose to showcase?

PS watch all 3 of these guys withdraw from Sofia next week assuming that the Battle/Race is effectively ended this week - no point in them going there although currently 3 of the top 4 seeds there - Kyle with drew today but maybe he could have stood a chance?

Kyle standing a chance of what? Of winning a match? Based on performance since the re-start, Kyle probably would've only won a match is the opponent is BYE. He has lost from winning positions so I don't personally think it would've made much difference.

Dont disagree, I meant he stood a chance of reaching the main draw if he hadnt withdrawn, the 3 above will all no  doubt withdraw and I think he would be just two places off. But it probably makes no difference!

those with a chance of O2.

In this field, they could possibly win the event (PCB and MR) and stand a chance of qualifying...
