Week 44 - Rolex Masters 1000 - Paris (Bercy), France (indoor hard)

Venus and Peers and Koolhof and Mektic both won and look effectively home and dry into the O2 field

Indeed, Koolhof and Mektic are confirmed as the 5th qualifiers

In singles, Schwartzman is now just one win away from clinching that final place. Raonic also won today to maintain his challenge. PCB plays later

1 set all as Jamie and Neal win the 2nd 6-1. Biggest MTB of their careers just starting!

L16:  (4) Lukasz Kubot & Marcelo Melo (POL/BRA) CR 22 (11+11) defeated Jamie Murray & Neal Skupski CR 50 (24+26) by 6-2 1-6 [10-6]

A bit closer than the Vienna final.

Gone down 10-6...chances not over if Melzer and ERV dont carry on winning, but Sofia looks like it will be a needed part of their season

Ok I will say it. Jamie and Neal have won what since teaming up? Is the Phoenix challenger their only title?

Bruno on the other hand...

Not British but...in the Singles Race, there are 3 players left for 1 place - Schwartzman, PCB and Raonic.

Tomorrows scheduling:

Schwartzman on at 11am on central, first match. 5 matches follow.
Raonic on 2nd on second court
PCB on last on second court.

The only two singles on second court.

It seems like although there is a Race (or Battle as it is called this year), that it is clearly shunted to the sidelines, which i thnk is shortsighted. Given there are no crowds, surely they can be more creative in what they choose to showcase?

And then there were 2. Raonic is still going in Paris but he can't now catch Schwartzman.

Raonic would leave Paris on 3220 if he won the title. With a lowest counter of 45 he can only add a further 205 with the Sofia title. So his maximum is 3425. Schwartzman has moved up to 3455.

PCB is hanging in at the QF stage but any loss in Paris for him or further win by Schwartzman and we have our 8 for the O2 if Federer is the only absentee.

Disappointed Shortzmann didn't do better against Medvedev, losing 3-6,1-6.

Raonic's shorts are still just too short - looks like an overgrown school boy...... I know, I really need to get out more  :0(

Re the 2 for 3 for doubles places at the O2, Kubot & Melo and Melzer & Roger-Vasselin have both made the SF. They will be in separate SFs.

Live race :
7. Kubot & Melo 2140
8. Melzer & Roger-Vasselin 2030
9. Murray & Skupski 1890

So Kubot & Melo are now 250 Sofia title points ahead of Jamie & Ken. I don't know re any tiebreaker situation. A SF win for either pair would certainly put them out of reach.

Starting to look a bit ominous.

Maybe someone will pull out. I read Mike Venus is a doubt.

Yeah, bad day for our lads. Not sure theyd deserve it though, havent won a title and its hard to say they're a top 8 pair.

Hope joe makes it, otherwise no Brits....
