Week 1 - ITF M15 - Antalya, Turkey (clay)

L16: (8) Billy Harris WR 720 beat Leopold Zima (GER) WR 1333 6-3 6-2

QF: (8) Billy Harris WR 720 vs (2) Maxime Hamou (FRA) WR 363 (CH 221 Jul 15)

Well. The rather flamboyant and eccentric Hamou next. I saw Hamou play a few years ago in Murcia. Many will remember that Billy was playing in that tournament (think laundry service) and would have played Hamou in the QF except for a certain very young De Minaur who took out Hamou in the previous round. De Minaur won with a lot of variety that day which unsettled Hamou. I do wonder though is Billy's steady back court game is more to Hamou's liking. Winnable, but I think Hamou starts favourite.

No fan of Maxime (for his behaviour, not his tennis, although his tennis can be pretty boring too) but I'm surprised that Billy is favourite - there's a big difference in rankings.

Mind you, the odds for Jodie against Amandine were ridiculous too - maybe there's a post-Brexit Anglo-Gallic thing going on???

Lost the first set 6-4. 32 points apiece. Billy had 5 break points but couldn't convert.

I note that young Toby Kodat, US junior ranked 4th in the world, is tearing up the draw, having beaten the 4th and 5th seeds today, both relatively easily.

QF:  (2) Maxime Hamou (FRA) WR 363 defeated (8) Billy Harris WR 720 by 4 & 4  hmm

Billy served 10 aces to Hamou's two & six double faults to Hamou's none.  He had, I think, four break points when Hamou was serving for it.

Yes, Billy had 4 BPs in that final game and saved one MP but not a second.

Overall he was 0/9 on BPs against 2/11.

Are you much affected by Storm Filomena, Bob?  Worst snow for 40 years, I gather.  There's a photo on the BBC site of a chap skiing along the Gran Via in Madrid!

Fortunately not too much, thanks. Down on the costas we are protected from the worst of the cold and so no snow here. But it is bitterly cold (by Spanish standards) only reaching about 6º during the day and getting much colder at night.

We have had 2 days of constant rain which has finally relented this morning. But worse still has been the biting wind.

The biggest issue I have is that the houses here are deliberately built NOT to retain the heat because of the hot summers. So my house is like an ice box and no central heating.
