Took him a while, but he got there in the end:

QF:  (1/WC) Andy Murray WR 125 defeated (6) Blaz Rola (SLO) WR 159 by 6-4 7-6(9) in two hours 19 minutes & 39 seconds

*****

SF:  (1/WC) Andy Murray WR 125 vs Mathias Bourgue (FRA) WR 213 (CH = 140 in April 2017)

Andy played Bourgue once before, in French Open 2016, he won in 5 sets in a right old tussle. Bourgue clearly hasnt pressed on since then for whatever reason, so hopefully less difficult this time around !

First set Andy 6-0. Andy in charge of this one but a glimmer of hope for Frenchman in the last game.

Final:  (1/WC) Andy Murray WR 125 vs Illya Marchenko (UKR) WR 212 (CH = 49 in September 2016)

If Andy wins that one, it will be his first title since the Antwerp ATP 250 at the end of the year before last!

Yes well done Andy. The odd sticky moment here and there (I wasnt paying full attention at the time but think he had to save a set point at *4-5??) but gets through well in the end. Lets hope he can seal a win tomorrow.

Andy has played Marchenko twice , ironically both times at the Australian Open, and won in straight sets both times.

Andy lost first 2-6 looks out of sorts getting overpowered by Marchenko

A few ways to look at it. Match practice and he got plenty of that. Will see what happens next week but watching him is just not the same these days. I doubt he would manage best of 5 sets these days. Good to still see him out there though. Even a 40% Andy is still better than just about all of our mens players.

Really disappointing to be honest, those who placed
Andy in the 50- 100 bracket , Id say his ranking from this weeks play seems realistic ie just outside the top 100. Hopefully another week of play will tighten him up.

I think we also need to recognise that he is recovering from Covid too, we don't know how badly this might have affected him
