Looking at the draw bit confused as to why the 2nd special Exemption spot didnt get cleared after Chappell lost this morning.

Oh dear, let's hope Jack can turn the tables after this week's disappointing result.

There are only 15 pairs in the doubles here, why on earth wouldnt Liam, Jack D and Ryan P have made a pairing between them - would have been easy money, maybe got a one or two and seems no logical reason to have not done so??!

Because they are singles players and want to concentrate on getting their rankings up. Doubles isnt and shouldnt be a priority for any of them. Liam will have played plenty of tennis and the others have qualifying so it all makes sense to me.

Maybe - it just felt like a free hit , free cash, why not give it a go.

I guess the other issue is, if your off to play another tournament next week and likely to need to play qualifying then this weeks doubles could get in the way.

I think the issue may possibly be with quarantine.  If a player is in qualifying and then gets knocked out in the first round, do they want to hang around for another few days twiddling their thumbs when they can move on, do any quarantine that may suddenly spring up and compete somewhere else.  Things are so changeable at the moment that its probably not worth the risk of missing out on a singles opportunity elsewhere because all of a sudden the rules changed and they are stuck in S Africa. Last week there wasn't that issue because they were all there the following week.

Liam being in the final this week has probably prevented him from doing doubles as he needs the rest more than the money/points

In normal life, the doubles decision is very much base on what you've got planned for the next week.

i.e. it made sense for Liam and Jack to do dubs last week because they were going to be staying there all week anyway.

But if it's your last week and you're not very sure of getting very far in singles, then you don't want to commit to staying extra days.

And also agree with Emmsie that Liam's played a lot of tennis and probably didn't want to overdo it with singles AND doubles again this week.

And he's in Gran Canaria, isn't he, the week after?
