Week 7 - Challenger 80 ($52,080) - PotchOpen II, Potchefstroom, South Africa (hard)

But Ryan takes the final game.

To be fair, Simon served three underarm second serves and was walking rather woodenly.

But pleased Ryan managed to come through

Tough draws in main draw though, Draper plays Bonzi, last weeks winner. Ryan plays Brooksby the American who has been ranked higher

I have no idea who had the MTO after the 2nd set and only watched the main part of the 3rd. It was a very strange match and completely lacking in intensity. At times it appeared Jay didn't want to be there. I took a brief look back at a random game earlier in the match and the body language was completely different, so I am wondering if Jay was carrying an injury towards the end. For the most part he just rolled his 1st serve in.

Kuzmanov served for the match at *5-4 and Jay saved 2 MPs, fighting back to win the game and break back. But on winning the game, just strolled off as if to pick up a ball in the warm up. No celebration, no fist jump, no "come on" or anything. I can't think of anything other than injury as one thing Jay normally does is fight to the end.

Yes, possibly an injury, he seemed very pumped and ready from a recent Instagram post about a fortnight's training that he'd just done.

Jay has been on and off injured for the best part of at least a year. I don't know if it's the same one re-occurring or a different one but this will not be helping his ranking or his confidence.
