Week 12 - ATP Masters(1000)- Miami Open Presented by ITAU- Miami, USA (hard)

Wonder if Jamie is regretting his decision. So pleased for Neal and Dan. What a result.

Puts Neal ahead of Jamie in 19th in the rankings. Dan goes into the top 90. Dan and Neal go equal 8th in the race. If it stays this way, at season end, Neal will need to select from Ken and Dan as partner

I wonder if you get to decide or does your higher partner get first dibs. As surely it would be unfair on them if the lower ranked pair got in!

Great run from the boys this week. Wasnt feeling that confident about the MTB after that 2nd set. Brilliant to see Neal into the top 20. Puts a combined Ken and Neal ranking at 67. Hopefully Ken is back soon and can get a masters play with Neal.

I dont think Jamie would have expected Neal to have managed to team up with a Top 30 ranked tennis player to be fair.

It seems the image that Jamie is the best doubles player in the UK is starting to dip.
His form over the last few years has been inconsistent and Joe and Neal deserve the credit.
I bet he still gets picked for DC though.

A few of us on here were wondering who was the weaker partner when the split happened.

Trouble at t' (tennis) mill?  Interesting report by Stu Fraser in last Friday's Times about Vasek Pospisil's meltdown on court in his match against Mackenzie McDonald two days earlier.  It'll be behind a paywall, but the headline reads "Vasek Pospisil's sweary rant at Miami Open points to political unrest in men's tennis".  First paragraph:

The extraordinary tirade by Vasek Pospisil at the Miami Open on Wednesday was not the typical rant often seen on the tour when defeat beckons for a player. Containing an expletive-laden outburst towards the ATP chairman Andrea Gaudenzi, it shed a light on political unrest that, at one point this week, included discussions surrounding a potential boycott of the tournament.

VP apparently holds "a position of significant standing" alongside Djoko in the latter's precious breakaway group, the Tennis Professional Tennis Players [sic] Association (PTPA).  A further paragraph goes some way towards explaining the outburst:

The acrimony between the ATP and PTPA has been further stoked in recent months through various gripes about prize money, temporary changes to the rankings system and Covid-19 protocols. So strong was the discontentment among some players that the suggestion was floated not to take to the court in Miami as part of a protest. Ultimately, though, this did not receive majority backing, with most players wary of how this would look in the midst of a global pandemic.

I think it's not before 8:30pm UK, women's singles is at 6pm.

None of the official websites have published the order of play for tomorrow yet - and TNNS shows both matches at the earlier time, but courts to be allocated. I reckon wolf is right though.

Sinner into the final, a match with Rublev or Hurkacz will be something and one too look forward to.

Its been nice to not see one of the big 3 at the business end and interesting that none of the Medvedev, Zverev or Tsitsipas group have taken advantage

Nicer if the 'big 3' were actually getting beaten rather than trinkets being picked up in their absence. Yes, I can get a bit bored or maybe more blase about the same players dominating ( even though it was a privilege to be spoiled for so many years ) but I want to see the best. So kinda more wish the best would change through being challenged and beaten on court rather than just being absent. And let's particularly see that at Slam time.

Yes, not great again by the top ranked supposedly aspiring latter half of the 90s born players although I tend to include Rublev too in that group these days ( not Hurkacz for now anyway although he is later half 90s born ) so let's see if he can come through.

Apologies to Rublev for adding him to Jon's group. He in turn falls to Hurkacz 6-3 6-4.

That top ranked group is more talnted than what the early half 90s born has to offer. But wth that will they continue to be more frustrating?

And so a (21) Sinner vs (26) Hurkacz final.
