Week 13 - ITF M25 - Biel, Switzerland (indoor hard)

Would you Adam & Eve it?

L32:  (1) Jay Clarke WR 203 (CH = 153 in July 2019) vs Ryan Peniston WR 372 (CH = 359 in November 2019)  hmm

Well, should be interesting at least!

Not sure who to fancy there, Ryan I think could push Jay hard on recent form?

I'd edge Ryan on this one but pretty evenly matched right now I'd say

The wildcards were the clear favourites with the betting sites.

Jerome Kym is the player who won a DC doubles rubber vs Russia a couple of years ago aged 15.

Well, if that draw was pretty poor, it's now worse - not the draw as such but the situation - because Ryan has withdrawn cry

L32:  (1) Jay Clarke WR 203 (CH 153 July '19)  v (LL) Luca Vanni (ITA) WR 439 (CH 100 May '15) age 35

Well let's hope we don't manage the trick of having the two Brits in the draw draw each other and get none through.

Jay 5-7 4-3*

Just one break of serve in the first set and Jay recovered an early break in the second set.

That nightmare scenario very nearly came to pass:

L32:  (1) Jay Clarke WR 203 defeated (LL) Luca Vanni (ITA) WR 439 by 5-7 7-6(1) 6-4

He had to fight tooth & nail for that, looked down & out by the middle of the decider, eventually converting his fourth (I think) match point!

*****

L16:  (1) Jay Clarke WR 203 vs Antoine Escoffier (FRA) WR 394 (CH = 327 in February last year)

Maybe Jay could do with a few tough matches to get more back into the swing of things.

Though I do hope matches against this level of opposition become less tough and he can get back to really challenging top 200 players.

We could do with both him and Jack D  progressing given the general woeful state of GB men's under 25s.

Well done, Jay !

Vanni wasn't ATP 100 for nothing, that was a real dog fight and he did well to come out on top.

Escoffier is fairly ranked at 390 or whatever he is. He's 29 and has never made the top 300. He plays a lot of events, consistently chalks up a couple of wins in most events but isn't really someone to be scared of.
