Foggy & Schwartzman gave it a good go, forcing the Colombians to serve for it twice:  Cabal & Farah won by 7-6(5) 7-5.

Farah and Cabal are back to live ranked 1 and 2 respectively. Might as well beat them too.

In my humble opinion, todays result even more impressive than yesterday. Congratulations to him.

I agree.  It is relly hard to back up a result like the one against Djokovic but to do it against a player of Goffins quality is fabulous

David Goffin was far more gracious in defeated yesterday than Djoko on Thursday - a quote from Stu Fraser's report in today's Times:

Goffin, 30, is a first-hand observer of the dramatic improvements in Evans's attitude on clay. As a contemporary on the junior circuit, the world No 15 from Belgium can recall the frustration of Evans when his socks turned from white to red because of the clay dust. It was a far cry from the fight Evans put up yesterday to come through 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 in a nip-and-tuck encounter lasting two hours and 41 minutes.

"I knew him when I was a junior," Goffin said. "I could see his red socks. I could see he didn't like playing on the surface.  "Now, with maturity, in the past years he has been able to develop a good game with his own weapons. It was only him who didn't believe he was able to play well on clay. Now he's more mature, has a more stable game and he's able to fight and believe he can win."

And from the man himself:

"I find the clay easier on the body and I'm not as sore the day after," Evans said. "Mentally, you've got to go back again. I thought I was wavering a bit in the first set again today. I think I did a good job in the third to keep going point after point and hang in some games. I was probably a little lucky. I feel I've served pretty well. I've found it hard to serve on the clay to get free points, but I'm setting points up pretty well with it."

Sissypas is a terrible match up for Evans, reminds me of Murray vs Novak, in that you are just playing a better version of yourself so will lose.

Evans vs Rublev would have been great, as he is one of the most single dimension ball bashers on tour.

Can't admit to having seen much of either of their careers, but not sure if I'd say Stefanos and Dan play the "same", one hander backhand and sometimes similarly adventurous moving forward not sure if anything else

Sissypas? a bit mean spirited and uncalled for really.

Insulting nicknames are part and parcel of this forum. This has been one sided match, terrible match up as I said. Sissypas simply is able to adapt and handle the Clayevans slice, just like Federer can.

Hopefully Dan plays next week in Barca as per plans, Id then maybe give the week after a miss in the 250 and then play Madrid and Rome. By end of next week he will have been four full weeks.

Knowing Dan he will just keep on playing though

Insulting nicknames are often a sign of weakness in the person who is doing the insulting

Sissy is a very loaded derogatory word. If insulting nicknames are a thing here then maybe someone should take a look at the rules. But sure, go off I guess.

Vandeburg should be suspended from the forum and forced to compensate me for emotional trauma, my child like eyes can't begin to fathom such crass words

They are rather more a thing with the particular poster. Just really bit sad and unnecessary.

We generally survive well here without throwing the rulebook since it's a comparatively very good group compared to many other places, with the occasional "hey look at me" poster and/or troll becoming pretty well recognised.
