Amazing win for Evans. Breath taking. All these young guns should take note.
Dan Evans seems to have carved a niche out, by using a style that is not longer in existence and so comes a a big surprise to players. Evans is basically a junk baller with an amazing slice, it is really hard to get any rhythm against him. We are now entering a generation, where tennis is becoming, plan A, I stay at the baseline and hit is as hard as a I can and plan B hit it even harder. So when these millennial snowflake players see these balls coming back from evans, with venom spinning low, they have a melt down.
My points is, next gen do not really need to have a tennis IQ, just like snowflake in current society do not. Tennis styles are very much homogenised now, so to face something from another era like evans, freaks them out. Keep it coming.
If Dan can beat Goffin today he could go near top 10 in the Race, certainly top 15, depending on other results. Hes live 23rd today and Cam is not far behind. Very crowded leaderboard though in the 10-30 positions
And another win for our clay court and doubles specialist Dan!
I do wonder if playing doubles in recent weeks has been helping his game overall.
Cant have hurt. With 1 win in 6 tournaments on the singles court prior to this week playing any tennis is surely good to get some momentum going.
I agree - hes down to play doubles next week in Barca again , with Neal, and then Ken should be back for Munich, where Dan is just playing singles. Presumably singles only in Rome, Madrid and Paris as his game should be honed well by then.

Absolutely. Don't know if it actually helped his game in technical terms as such (possible) but it must have certainly helped his mood (and his approach to clay).
After all, he lost in the first round of singles in the last three events: and in the second round in the event before, and the first round in the event before that. It's been a really poor singles run. Hardly any match practice. And just a downer all round.
if that's all you've got to show for your efforts, you're not going to be feeling too chuffed. And although Dan's a huge competitor whenever he steps on the court, and only one of those R1 losses was clay, it's not going to help the 'I hate clay' mindset.
But with some good doubles, to fill the off days, and the buzz that gives, it's got to be a big help.
I think of part of Dan's recent issues has been the lack of spectators, Novak dicking around making him wait probably went some way to compensating for that. Dan has mentioned how much he hated the itf lower circuit with no one watching.

Yes, I agree. Both Gilles Simon and Tsonga have said they've no real interest playing at the moment, to empty stadiums, that the crowd was an essential part of the enjoyment of the sport. They're a bit older, and richer, and can afford to step back. But it's not easy and Dan certainly likes a crowd.
