Great result. Would that go down as his career best win???

Woah. A brilliant performance and a first career Top 5 win for Cameron Norrie as he beats Dominic Thiem 6-3 6-2 in Lyon. This season, thats probably not even a shock, but it still feels like one. Thiems search for his level and his confidence continues.
I don't think anyone in the tennis pundit community, or in the tennis locker room really acknowledges Thiem as a grand slam champion. He will always have a big * next to his name.
The 5th set of the USO Final was worse than WTA standard, with about 8 breaks of serve. He's only won the one masters too. He is clearly in decline now.
Probably the worst grand slam champion since..... Johansson or Gaudio???
In terms of prestige, for me he ranks below the golden era nearly men, Tsonga, Berdych etc.

As usual Vandy, you're comparing apples and oranges.
Whilst you may be right in the long term, you are comparing a current player in their mid 20s with a retired and (I would say) close to retired players.

With you on the * after his title win though.
I think the saddest part, is the not even Theim himself believes he is a slam champion, he has no aura around him. Nobody respects him.
Speaking of "nearly men" Ferrer, Nalbandian, Nishikori
What are you on drugs?
Cilic had a very solid career, he is finished now, but yes he may have fluked a grand slam, but he did reach two other slam finals, (at different slams, so even more points).
Gaudio never even reached another slam QF, madness.
I know we can't do time travel, and you can only beat who is in front of you yada yada yada, but these new kids are very poor. Yes they can win a few masters BO3 sets, but they do not have mental concentration for slams
So Cam to play another ex US college guy in the quarters. Good win by Arthur Rinderknech, a French lucky loser ranked 125, over Sinner. Big serve & forehand.
Good luck Cam - you would think Cam would have the measure of Arthur - I can see he got a couple college wins over Arthur a few years ago.
But Arthur will be on high at the moment, playing his best tennis ever, and after just having got his MD wildcard for RG. And he certainly packs a huge punch on the ball. As you say, nice to see US college players doing well.
Think you might need to breathe a little and sit back down Vandeburg, that Cilic won a gs/the us open, in prime top 6 era (federer, nadal, novak, andy, stan, delpo) which all of these players had won when others (ferrer, nabaldian, agassi, roddick, ferrero, tsonga, monfils, gasquet, nishikori, gonzalez) all couldn't. As far as Gaudio, most spanish/argentine players struggle on other surfaces than clay, hence nalbandian reaching wimby final was a surprise, plus "dare I say" not having had a mega star player since a long time.
