Mike Dickson has am amusing little sympathetic tweet for the French:
In France, where tennis is deeply woven into the sporting culture, theres consternation at the host nation not getting anyone past the 2nd rd at RG (nous comprenons votre douleur)
Assuming Gasquet loses tonight (against Nadal, and I don't think it's sticking my neck out too far to go along with that), there will be no French players, men or women, in R3 (single)
As one of the leading French tennis tweet guys is saying:
"Nous sommes les témoins d'une édition dramatiquement historique."
I'm sorry but the idea GB tennis is in a better state than French tennis is stupid. There are 22 french men in the top 200 of the single race right now. With those numbers, it is matter of time before you produce a golden player, I think GB has 4??
All we have is player we bribed on tennis New Zealand and Evo right now.
The bottom half of the draw is turning into an ATP 250. I think Isner will take out Sissypas and Opelka will take out Medvedev. Let's hope Fognini comes out from the Bottom half and we have a Nadal vs Fog final.
Is this a genuine misspelling or are you adding a slur to Tsitsipas' name?
it's a slur, this next gen are more obsessed with Instagram and love island then they are with training hard and winning, the reason why big 3 are still winning is more of a indictment on this new gen, then is of praise for the big 3. The big 3 have stopped taking masters 1000 seriously, allowing the door to be opened for them, but they are miles away in best of 5 tennis, and are mentally weak. Could you really see Lendl or Martina Nav, being mentally down and refusing to do media duties??? Not blaming Osaka, but the society that has created this. I have even seen odds over on MTF that she will appear as non-binary before Wimbledon.

OF COURSE I'm not saying that UK tennis is in a better state than France's !
Seriously? How could you possible think I was saying that..... ???
I was saying, with suitable tongue in cheek, that at least we have one guy through to R3 - which (quelle horreur) my French friends don't, and are giving themselves serious stomach acid over. Which is mildly amusing, because you have to take your moments when you can.

It would appear that you're trivializing mental health issues. People are different and the fact that Lendl or Martina didn't refuse to do media duties doesn't make Osaka less of a human being for putting herself first. What's the excuse for Bjorn Borg quitting tennis at the age of 25? He walked off court, didn't speak to the press and that was it.
