Week 25 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass) - men's qualifying

Stuart had a lot of break points. Couldnt' quite manage one. Then had to serve to stay in the match. Did so admirably.

5-5

Felix has Polmans next then; knows his way around a grass court, 32nd seed. Tough

Arthur could have Ebden - see Polmans above and add a little ...

Jack PJ will have Rinderknech or Bourgue next.

Poor Stuart. He was SO close. Far closer than I expected. And he had his chances with the BPs. But ended up getting broken right at the end, lost the third 5-7. Dudi was tough. But, to be honest, Stuart should have won that. He just was a bit slack with his feet, made a few UEs when he shouldn't. Real shame. No point saying 'good effort' because he should have won it.....

And Ryan goes down

So 4 it is - and being frank, not the ones I expected (bar one) and all the more welcome for the fact they are our young guys who have got through!

A great day for the Brit men but can't help being disappointed with Ryan. I thought he had a real chance there, Uchiyama is on a terrible run :(

Yeah, Ryan definitely disappointed me also, he was one I expected to progress.

Still a good haul - anyone able to summarise what this should mean for the rankings of Anton, Arthur, Felix and Jack PJ?

4 equals the highest number to make it to the 2nd qualifying round since 1999 when 6 made it.

4 also made it in 18,17,16,09 & 00

I posted up the thread that Felix should climb to about 850, Arthur just inside the top 900.
Then it looks like Jack goes to the 950's and Anton maybe up about 20 places to about 430.

Ryan seems to have a way of getting very close but not over the line. I always expect the worst.....might be unfair but that's my takeaway.

And, yes, he really had a chance here. (As did Stuart but Stu is a fair bit lower ranked, and less experienced)

But, as people are saying, it is great to see a cohort of youngsters (although Aidan has a real 'mare).

Of those qualifying, that's:

2003 x 1
2002 x 2
2001 x 1

And Will Jansen (2004) put up a very decent showing too.
