I think this shows the value of press interviews. (Re Osaka etc)

It's a truly honest reaction - sh*t, is it really worth it?

BUT it's the reaction in the heat of the moment - before he's slept on it, and thought about things coolly.

His feeling today, or in a week's time, might be the same.

But there's no reason it should be.

The BBC version of the interview says it all depends whether he can get a lot of court time in the next few months.

But I think it's great the public can get a glimpse of what he's thinking.

Mo Farah said the same last week when he failed to get the Olympic qualifying time.  I'm not sure what Andy expected to be honest. I think 3rd round after his injuries should be celebrated. Denis is no mug, it's not like he lost to a journeyman.  Anyway the alternative is sitting at home with 4 kids under 6, I know which I'd choose.

Or becoming hands on with his training and coaching centre and using his reputation and ideas to raise the profile of tennis at all levels in this country.

As Tim Henman never really did.

Or Pete Sampras never did.

Or the vast majority of tip-top players never do.

(ADD: not blaming them. There's no reason they should)

But Andy has an energy and passion that needs to be channelled into something

that will make a difference and he has the courage to speak out.

Are you saying that Tim and Pete and all the others have no energy and passion?

I think Andy has earned the right to go out whenever he decides it is time. If he choses to play until 40, then good luck to him ( and if necessary give him WCs until he does retire). However, I think we also need to be realistic about what he can achieve moving forward. I don't think he can ever get back to a top 10 level ( though of course I hope I'm wrong), but it is still a joy to see him compete at major tournaments again.

The wc's came with a price, the inclusion of Petchey in his coaching team, in many ways the LTA show how out of touch they are with that move. After over 20 years of Castle, Lloyd and Petchey not bringing any newcomers to tennis, its beyond flogging a dead horse ramming them down our throats, turna people off tennis, even if Andy is "just doing what he's told/asked" to promote tennis.

I'm willing to believe that you know more about tennis than I do but I find it incredibly difficult to imagine Andy "just doing as he's told".  I've always had the distinct impression that he's very much his own man, does things his way and says exactly what he thinks. That's part of what makes him such a great champion.

Overall I dont think Andys comments where negative., they where I need a clear run of training and playing and then I can compete, if not is it worth it.

Pretty sound

If he wants the wc's I'm sure he'll do what he'd have to, or would have been watching Queens and Wimby from home

Seriously? Andy was "forced" to take on Petchey?

Andy's comments were straight after the match and make sense to me - but I don't think it means he'll be making a swift decision to retire yet (but what do I know?!) Of course he felt down - he hates losing!

I've just watched SmugFed trying to get the crowd onside in his postmatch oncourt interview. I just hope that they do support Cam. It'll be horrible if it's like Andy matches when they used to supprt Fed over him.

It mystifies me too. There were a scattering of English people cheering on Djokovic against Jack Draper. I mean, does he really need more support than the 19 year old? Strange.

Hoping Cam (and Emma) play their lights out tennis today and that the crowd are behind them!!!

Wonder if Fed is into mind games and  delays coming on court so hes slightly behind Cam hoping for a surge in cheering from the crowd

He got a wildcard from Roland Garros (if he wanted one). He's got and will get plenty of wildcards around the world.

There's no way the AELTC are going to let other events give him wildcards and not give him one themselves because he's being difficult about some tiddly nonsense.

Didn't realize you spoke for the LTA Coup? Or had had dealings with them your whole life and see how ineffective, inefficient and swindlesome, they are and can be about players and opportunities.

Indeed, junior. There are many things you probably don't realise about me
