Week 29 - Challenger 80 ($52,080) - Atlantic Tire Championships - Cary, NC, USA (hard)

Interesting to see Donald Young's name in the draw. Once the great hope for American tennis, with a victory over Andy Murray to his name (albeit not as hard a task in Indian Wells), now ranked 365. Also Jack Sock, now ranked 207.

Come on Aidan!!

Aiden was 6-4, 5-1 up. Now into a 3rd set 6-4, 6-7(6)

Aidan 2-0* in the 3rd. All in all a match that he needs to get across the line or it will be more than a little annoying. C'mon.

Plays a terrible game other than one passing shot and the pressures mounting

Phew animated emoticon  Aidan makes the most of his luck loser spot - eventually (Shhh's post refers):

L32:  (LL) Aidan McHugh 471 defeated (Q) Shintaro Mochizuki (JPN) WR 475 by 6-4 6-7(6) 6-4 in two hours & 34 minutes 30 seconds

History almost repeated itself in the third set!

Phew, great to see the cultural hand shake. Aiden takes his hat off and the Japanese guy gives a small bow.

Phew, that was getting very concerning. I wasn't watching until the very last game which Aidan breezed so I don't know the whys and wherefores before that other than that "terrible game" reference.

Sorry all. I started tuning when James was 3-1* (15-0)..and it all generally went downhill after that although he did break back at 3-5.

Also watched a bit of Aidan. Wow - what a struggle to get over the line. He seemed very nervous towards the end (probably understandably) and was struggling to really hit through the ball but glad he did in the end and got the win. Is this his first win at challenger level?
