I'm a bit late but Dan's match was a fantastic contest. Incredible volleying and passing shots. Some of the points were ridiculous. Crowd seemed to love it too.

Even later for me and wasn't thinking I'd be watching for over 4 hours. Can't imagine how it must feel to be on court for that length of time and who'd have thought Dan would have the legs (always knew he'd have the heart). What a match. So looking forward to the next. Thanks Dan for a great watch.

Phew animated emoticon  $64,000 question:  would he have made it, had other Grand Slam fifth set "solutions" been in play?

L16:  (24) Daniel Evans WR 27 vs (2) Daniil Medvedev (RUS) WR 2 (= CH)

The Beeb's report on the match.

Rublev and Tiafoe starting their fifth set at what is just before 2 am. Crazy.

If Francis wins that 3.rd quarter of the draw is wide open, massive opportunity for someone

And to all the anti-fifth set tie-break peeps, my household at the moment all announced they were off to bed at about 3-3 in the fifth of Dan's match, coz it 'could go on for ages' - and then realised there'd be a TB at 6-6 and said 'oh, yeah, right, might as well watch it then' - and were jumping out of their seats and cheering
(I/we could have lived with a 10 point TB, if needs be, but God bless a tie-break, at 6-6 !)

Im a convert to the 6 all 5th set tiebreak , dont see the point in elongating things and 4 hours tennis is long enough for anyone !

And Tiafoe took the final set and this is wide open - shame Dan has the toughest player in the lower half next !

From US Open site

MATCH POINT: The steady Evans hit 48 winners to only eight unforced errors, whereas the big-hitting Popyrin hit 77 winners to 56 unforced errors.
