Week 34 - ATP 250 - Winston-Salem Open - NC, USA (hard)

Just switched into this from NY and good to see that Dan is looking like he is turning things around in the 2nd set. Gasquet seems to be struggling physically and doing all he can to shorten the points.

As I write this though not all plan sailing as Gasquet now has broken back for 3-4. Dismal service game from Dan there.

In the end, second set went to a tiebreak which Dan has lost 4-7. Feels like an opportunity lost for Dan here.

Dan didnt play too badly, Gasquet played some amazing backhands, doesnt he always. Lost to Andy last week, so shows how up and down it can all be.

So tournie over for Brits , onto New York.

Bitterly disappointed for Dan, but Gasquet is such a talent in his own way and actually, in the great scheme, quite a lot more experienced than Dan and using his talent even when hampered, (if that makes sense?).

Not too fussed about Dan, it was an extra tournament and given he originally said he wasn't going to enter tournaments the week before a Slam, he probably wouldn't have wanted to go much further, maybe another round would have been ideal but 2 matches is fine.

Late to the party here but it was an enjoyable match to watch. Lovely backhands, beautiful angles and enjoyably old school.
