Week 34 - Challenger 50 (€31,440) - IBG Prague Open, Czech Republic (clay)

QF: Ryan Peniston WR 351 d. (Q) Facundo Díaz Acosta (ARG) WR 429 6-3, 6-1

Impressive result as his opponent had won his other matches quite well including taking out the 3rd seed.

15pts gained now, a new career high for Ryan?

Potentially the No.1 seed next but a player that has been rocking around the 300 mark most of his career so all to play for.

Nice one. And shouldn't make assumptions, but the Argentinian is probably a pretty good clay-courter

Ryan always seems to come up JUST short whenever I watch him, so I'll follow this from a distance

Good stuff. Those 15 points will add a net 11 ranking points taking Ryan to 141 points.

Live ranking sites show Ryan will be up to live 345 against his CH 347 from the start of this month though there are a few players that could theoretically still overtake him this week. A SF win and he'd certainly have a comfortable CH.

He will now be up to GB #8 ahead of James Ward ( I don't know what James' plans are? )

SF:  Genaro Alberto Olivieri (ARG) WR 365 (= CH) vs  Ryan Peniston WR 351

Arguably as winnable a match as the one against Díaz & definitely more winnable than if it had been the Russian top seed, Karlovskiy (WR 291/CH 211), whom Olivieri beat in three sets in his QF...

Ryan does seem to be in a purple patch. Has held is ranking despite others sliding past him. Well Done.

4-0 up very quickly.

But now a heavy shower (or downpour)

They were playing in pretty heavy rain even before ...

Played resumed and Ryan promptly broken. Fortunately, on his 8th break point, he got it back so now leads 5-1 :)

I see the current delay is with the score at 6-1 5-5 40-15* Ryans score first. A rain break with 2 break points!

A good position, but he was 5-3 up and had 2 mps at 5-4 so hopefully he can pull through in straight sets.
