RE: Week 39 - ATP 250 - San Diego Open - San Diego, CA, USA (hard)

British representation in  in both singles and doubles finals of an ATP event isn't common.  I'm not going to be able to watch though, way past my bedtime!

Bet365 has it as a close match, Cam 1:1  and Casper 4:5

I love watching the big, big hitting and long points that this new crop of players bring.

Too tired to watch the third set last night, so caught up this morning. WOW a what a fantastic win for Cam. Thought he played a great tactical game.  Backing Cam to win today!!

IMO Rublev will never be a grand slam winner until he gets full control of that temper. There were times when seemed it was taking much of his focus to rein in. Wasted energy hmm

Question is for me is cam or Dan our true number one? Dan did well in New York but has cam had the better season?

I'd say that Cam has certainly overall had the better 2021.

In the live race Cam is 14th on 1850 points and Dan 25th on 1205 points.

And although in the official end of year rankings Dan will carry forward a few hundred more pre 2021 points, currently if you take their net points due to drop off for the remainder of the year from their live ranking points Cam is also on target to finish the year just ahead of Dan in the rankings ie. if neither win another match this year - and Cam could add a further 100 points in the final tonight.

Current projected year end ranking points :
Cam : 2015 - 97 = 1918
Dan : 2122 - 230 = 1892

Vs top 10 opponents this year : Cam Won 2 Lost 6, Dan W1 L5
Vs top 20 opponents this year : Cam W 7 L6, Dan W 3 L6

And of course Cam has beaten Dan in their 2 meetings this year, ar the Australian Open and here.

Over the year as a whole, I'd say pretty good from Dan but especially good from Cam.

PS: I haven't just just now gathered all the above info. I had already been looking at how they compared for end of year rankings and their records against high ranked opponents etc.

Still unbeaten as a pair. Vienna 500 title in their only previous tournament together.

9-1 now according to ATP write up, not sure where they lost, before Vienna at some time

Salisbury and Skupski improve to 9-1 after the straight-sets victory, with the British tandem searching for a second title. The last time the two played alongside each other was in Vienna in 2018, when they lifted the trophy.

Thats a pretty good statistic. I knew we had a good win together three years ago, we havent played together since then, Salisbury said. Its great to be back on court together, we know each other well and play well together.

That's what happens when you rely on your memory instead of checking the facts...
