Cam is in danger of ending up the highest ranked player through to the SFs.

Massive opportunity for Cam now, both in IW itself, his ranking and in qualifying for Turin. Hope he can take advantage. If he does we wont have a British tennis story like this in so , so longwell, about a month maybe. Ha- heady times

Its amazing reading the comments threads on the Mike Dickson article on the Mail (yes, I know) how it is all about Cam not being a true Brit, quickly turning to Emma and her background. Its the one thing I hate about British tennis, the way folks quickly turn the xenophobia on and have a go at our top talent, others like Jo as well of course that weve talked about here many times.

So frustrating

That's not about tennis, that's the DM. Also worth remembering that a lot of commentators on there aren't from the UK. Think they discovered most of the racist posts on Twitter aimed at footballer were from abroad.

Youre right it is in large part the Daily Mail, but when the BBC have or had their have your say comments it used to descend to the same rhetoric as well. I do think theres a large part of Britain thats racist , we know there is. The type of people who say Im not racist, my mate at work is black or Asian or whatever ,and then go onto to be completely racist. Im not sure where xenophobia becomes racism, they are on the same line to me.

I don't think these comments have anything to do with racism.    After all those mentioned are largely white.   I read it as more to do with knocking Britain  as in all our best players are really foreign.  Why do we not have any home grown Brits who are good at tennis?

Emma is home-grown. And she's just won the US Open.

To me, the interesting thing (from a tennis point of view) is where the player did their junior training, which system supported them, and how much so.

So, I see a big difference between (1) Cam Norrie (trained exclusively in NZ until age 17/18, then one year in the UK, then in the US college system - although with some help now via wildcards, coaches, money etc from the LTA) - and (2) Emma Raducanu - trained exclusively in the UK since she first held a racket, 100% under the LTA system.

This big difference is not in my support for them - it's all the same to me - but just in according credit to the system that made it possible i.e. I'm not interested in their parents' nationalities or the fluke of where they were physically born but who facilitated their success, and how.

yes, true - but my point is that the people

commenting immediately withdraw their support, not made here, mainly not born here. What about Mo Farah, he never got this type of put down, it seems reserved for our tennis players . The same people having a go at them are probably cheating Mo Salah scoring at Watford just now. So why do we reserve it for our tennis players?

maybe racism is harsh but its not pleasant .

I think this backs up my point - this commentary does not prove 'there's a large part of Britain that's racist' but shows an odd desire to knock British tennis.  Quite why, I have no idea.  Is it similar to those who derided Tim Henman as a loser because he had not won a Grand Slam rather than recognising he was no 4 in the world?

Let's hope Cam's break of serve to win the first game is an auspicious start.

Dimitrov V Norrie is on. Tim Henman commits treason and picks Dimitrov to win. I just hope above anything that the game matches the excitement that it has generated here and lives up to its billing (and that Cam wins). I'm excited about this one.

Think he was just being contrary because Greg picked Cam

You're probably right and to be fair he did add that he hopes Cam  wins. It's certainly looking like his hopes maybe justified as Cam goes 3-0 up in the first set. Could we have another shock British winner in the USA to join Emma R. I'm beginning to believe it.
