Week 41 - ITF M15 - Antalya, Turkey (clay)

Went to a TB.

Which Jack played pretty poorly.

7-6(1) to the other guy

Jack went behind in the second but did extremely well to break back and take the second set 6-4

You can't help warming to the Russian guy, though - he just makes you smile - he's trying SO hard, and all gangly, very dynamic but not easy to get his legs sorted out, and has SUCH a funny technique - I'm rather fond of him already

Thoroughly deserved that third set. Especially after having battled so hard to get the second. Kept his nerve very well.

Bravo to our 2003-junior and 15k title winner !

 Most definitely biggrin

AND he's got a rather unusual name, so it'll be easier to follow - I'm useless at geography but Savva doesn't sound like a normal Moscow sort of Russian name - more Greek or something, no?

Anyway, he's got a friend in me smile

Derivation of "Savva".  Judging by the number of Russians in the list with it as their first name, it's quite common there.

Thanks, SC.

Must be a Russian Orthodox - Greek Orthodox crossover sort of name.

I've got a couple of friends of that background from way back - I'll whatsapp them, it'll be a good excuse

Russian form of Sebastian replaces the b with a v so may well be the familiar form of that. At least it would make more sense than Alexander becoming Sasha.
