Yay.  After a few near misses, finally a match that goes his way against one of those currently at the top of the pile. And a whole hour shorter than the his last 3 setter to boot! smile

Great win!  biggrin

To my mind, though some frustrating losses to some very good players, Andy had already been well proving that he belonged at this level. A few better draws and/or getting on the right side of some tight matches and his ranking would have been well on the up towards a more realistic level.

Hopefully this win will give him a real boost.

And of course Andy beat Alcatraz in 3 sets and 3 hours in Indian Wells so a chance to consolidate that win and also demonstrate his trajectory is justified .

Presumably a much faster court than IW for the rematch with the Spaniard

And the win puts Andy 99 in the live race. Sadly it means Liam drops to 101 in the race at the same time.

Andy played an absolute mental passing shot on the run in the second set. He did so well to dig in 2nd set. Life in the old dog yet.

Hes got little points to defend until Wimbledon so hes almost certain to be back in the top 70 or so if he stays fit. Knowing Andy he will be targeting a seeding spot for Wimbledon. Its got to a possibility if he keeps playing.

Dans season is a very mixed one - his highs have been winning a first title, back in January, reaching the latter stages of Monte Carlo and finding his inner clay court beast, and then a good run at the US Open to the last 16. Plus a career high ranking. But it seems that although he is playing well (based on comments here after matches it usually seems a good performance) he has had a generally poor run since the clay season ended. So for around 5 months now.

Hes not had a coach for a while now and cant recall when he moved to live in Dubai, but I wonder if hes missing a) some coaching input that would make a difference b) the change of lifestyle at home has impacted him in some way? Hes certainly committed and playing lots of events, just not getting the wins.

On balance, maybe a coaching input would help him?

These are my thoughts too, he needs a coach or to come back to the UK for the winter although that seems counterproductive given the differences in weather.

But he had a 'coach/someone' sitting in his box - who was that? The guy he was talking to, sitting with his girlfriend?
I thought the commentator said 'coach' when he said Dan was talking a lot to his coach.
Who was that guy?
