RE: Sonay Kartal

Let us hope that she is able to stay healthy and stay in the top 100 and even go higher wink

After her amazing WTA250 title, Sonay has won the ITF W100 title in Shrewsbury, and then was runner-up last week in the W75 in Hamburg

She's now entered the top-90

WR 88 (+7)

Is her ranking high enough so entry into the Aussie GS is compulsory?  (Grammatically that sounds clumsy, is there a better way of phrasing it?).

Last entry on that list is WR98 - Harriet was WR102 (now 104) at the entry deadline so will probably make it as well.

This week Sonay has made the last 16 of the W1000 Indian Wells. As a LL (), she's beaten Lepchenko, Haddad Maia and Kudermetova

Play brave, Sonay !

"It's appropriate that one of Kartal's many tattoos is a symbol of bravery on her wrist. The origins of that go back even further, though.

"I wasn't the best junior growing up," she explained. "I wasn't that great. A bit of a late developer. I lost a lot of matches from playing too safe. I kind of had enough of losing and was like, I need to change something. If I have it on my wrist, I can see it. It's a little reminder at change of ends."

Sonay Kartal has apparently pulled out of the Canadian Open, so that's two top Brits out.

There was a nice interview with Sonay on BBC breakfast programme this morning. It should be on iPlayer. Somewhere between 8.30 and 8.45.

Thanks Jan, it was a good watch. I had it placed at about 8.35.

She/they comes across so well and level headed, hard to realise she/they's still so young. I certainly wasn't that together at that age.

Does anyone know whether she/they's none binary - I just notice that when she/they's playing and in the interview, she/they's flat chested, so wondered if she was wearing a binder.
