Week 44 - ATP Masters 1000 - Paris, France (indoor hard)

Having seen Koepfer at Ilkley 2 1/2 years back now, he really shouldnt bother Andy. He is consistent, nice style, but had no weapons and shouldn't hurt Andy at all.

Yes make no mistake this is down to Andy, Koepfer isnt really having to do anything. The court looks really slow and Andy isnt moving that well, almost doesnt look bothered.

Hes not treating this match with any respect here. Should have been up 0-40 on opponents serve there to make it 2-2, instead hes 1-3 down. I know its Andy but cant see him turning this around. If if he does go out here I think he shouldnt bother with Stockholm and just regroup for next season.

The hard run of competitions doesn't seem to be making him any sharper at the moment that's for sure.

Had chances to break there looking a bit better but probably too late now 2-4 down second set.

At what point do tournaments decide not to give him wildcards - that could be a key point for him and his career

I think any of the big 4 or 5 will get wild cards for the foreseeable mainly due to the careers they had and the support they generate. Not much likeability in Zverev (obvious reasons) Medvedev Tsitsipas etc. Once the top 4 retire I think the tennis profile will slip.

I think it would be next season if he made many more first round appearances of this quality but fortunately for Andy this is the worst I've seen him play this season by a long way

I expect Koepfer to serve this out for a 6-4, 6-4 win here.

Takes the set 7-5, still not vintage his opponent is essentially a challenger player. Anybody better and hed be out. Hopefully a 6-2 or similar get out of here Murray escape. Cant see him troubling Felix, Hubert or Tsitsipas Im the next rounds thats for sure.

And the game with Francis Tiafoe in Antwerp was probably the most exciting first round match I've ever watched.

L56:  (LL) Dominik Köpfer (GER) WR 58 defeated (WC) Andy Murray WR 144 by 6-4 5-7 7-6(9) in three hours & one minute disbelief

What a waste of a wild card.  11 aces & NINE double faults (DK 5/3)!  At least he showed some fight after the first set.

Although there's a general feeling that Andy's been a little flat tonight it's stunning entertainment nevertheless. The crowd absolutely lapping it up. Andy kept tightening up through 7 match points and on and on it went. Well done Dominik Keopfer in the end.
