Joe moving in on world no.1 status and I don't think he gets the credit in the British press due to Jamie Murray's connections.

Lets hope he goes on to win it , he and Rajeev are a great pairing and good blokes as well.

Semis today

Djoko v Zverev. Played 4 times in 2021. 3-1 to Djoko. On each occasion the player losing the first set goes on to win the match. So expect a 3 set match with the winner coming from behind. Of course, that wont happen now!

Medvedev is 2-0 this year on Ruud.

Hard to not see anything other than a Djoko v Medvedev final.

Joe and Rajeev versus Mektic and Pavic. Two top pairs in world. Joe and Rajeev are only semifinalists at 3-0 on week and I reckon they have the form and fight ; Herbert and Mahut seem a v close second to them and Im going on them joining them in the final and a re match from earlier in the week.

Look out for all of these being wrong !

Medvedev got the singles semi in straight sets.

Seeds 2 v 3 in both finals as Zverev beats Djoko.

Joe and Rajeev go at around 1.30 pm. Go Joe!

And wouldnt it be interesting if all 3 of the Big 3 end up on 20 wins in slams as a result! Could happen!

Arguably kind of by default by just being there as the Golden Generation has become depleted ( although Djokovic has again been the top player of the year ) and the New Generation is not quite ready yet

The last four winners at the Atp Finals have been Dimitrov, Zverev, Tsitsipas and Medvedev, so far this has only translated into one Grand Slam title.

One thing become more and more transparent is how the 5 set slam format differs from 3 set play - 3 set matches can often go long, 3 hours plus but having the mental and physical consistency to battle 7 best of 5 over two weeks is something that many of the current crop just dont have - they dont play 5 sets anywhere else other than slams. At least Andy et al played Davis Cup and some Masters matches/finals where best of 5 earlier in their careers. None of the next gen play 5 sets at all.

In terms of WTF, it also comes at end of a long hard season and to be honest , we have discussed this here before, often flatters to deceive. A couple of years back at O2, was it 2017 or 2018, none of the group matches went beyond 2 sets or had an upset result. Players gave up, effectively, after the first set. Maybe end November isnt the long term answer for it, nor the group format. I always loved the old WCT Finals in Dallas, and The Grand SLam Cup in Munich - knockout, 8/16 players, best of 5 (or at least best of 5 semis and final) and play it outside of Nov/Dec - it may be year end but lets be innovative, play it in say Feb or March!

Joe and Rajeev lost the final 6-4 7-6 , the French just had too much for them today. Still good week and as mentioned first British tour finals final appearance in doubles . Well done Joe
