Week 46 - Challenger 80 (€44,820) - HPP Open - Helsinki, Finland (indoor hard)

I'm looking at the rankings and if Liam wins here, is there an outside chance he'll make Aus main draw assuming they'll be a few more withdrawals than usual?

Looking at OER, if he wins he would have 634 points which would place him between 115 and 120 depending on how others do this week. Probably still a bit of a stretch to get in directly although, as you say, nothing is clear yet about the likely number of withdrawals.

Another solid win from Liam today - hes been pretty consistent for much of the year. Would be nice if he could set himself up for Davis Cup next week with another win, or two, or indeed three here! Good luck tomorrow.

Liam and Sousa currently in a 1st set TB. There is some real high quality tennis being played by both players.

Watched from 3-4 but then missed the tiebreak. Would agree about the level of tennis. The two points for Liam to go 0-30 in the 12th game on the Sousa serve were just a prime example of that.

Put this on, but then had other stuff to concentrate on. I saw Liam was a break down, so he did well to come back!

Yes. Those two points stood out for me too.

The opening point of the 2nd set wasn't too shabby either.

Wow. Liam lost the 2nd set and was a break down in the 3rd as Sousa served at *5-3

But Liam broke back, saved MPs on his own serve and we are now at 5-5

Another hold from Liam from 0-30 and into a deciding TB we go. What a match.

Not to be in the end. But that was an ATP Main Tour quality match IMO.

Yes, really intense and such weight on the balls.

Sad for Liam but, as you say, high level match.

He's a wily professional, was at Wimbledon and watched the Jubby/Sousa match and he just seems to get everything back.
