Week 2 - Australian Open - men's qualifying (outdoor hard)

GSM Liam

6-7 6-4 6-2

20 plus shot rally where Liam kept on putting it back into play until Safiullin goes long again. Well done Liam some great fighting spirit when the chips were down

Not a match of high quality by any means compared to Andys match of course but thats 3 comebacks in a row and I think a new career high as well when he plays in the Main Draw. Parallels with Harriet here with the never say die attitude. Smiling like a Cheshire Cat Fruit Salad at the changeover there as well ha

Liam holds to 30 with another come on shout. Hes also changed his top and so looks completely like a fruit salad wrapper :-)

Blinkin brilliant!!

Last looked at the score at 3-5 second set, went away to do some chores and then come back to see that Liam actually won it!

Fantastic - well done that man!

Only started watching as of the end of the second but just SUCH a good fight back.

NB Don't know if steven could maybe send a photo, probably a bit above and beyond, he's already being a star, but I do SO hope that SC gets to see Liam's outfit - she'll LOATHE it Might make her feel better just to get all peppered up about it.

From my calculations it might move him to 121 which is his career high at present. However it looks like he has a lot of points due off in February, 129 in total. So another win here wouldn't go a amiss!

Is that three times he has lost the 1st set and won in these qualies ? That's some effort, mentally as much as physically. So happy for Liam and a shout out for Dave Sammel, his coach.

Andy not letting Liam enjoy his qualification too much!

Andy Murray

But has slipped back to number 4 in Britain in the live rankings. Tough.

I do find the covid adjustments are a bit unfair right now if points are being dropped from Feb last year when others seem to still have points among their counting events from 2 years ago.  Or am I wrong on that assumption ?
