Week 2 - ITF Challenger - Forli, Italy 2 $80K (Indoor Hard)

Jay played very well in that third set - not easy - he's lost to Escoffier before - but he thoroughly deserved the third set.

Well done !

Jay takes it 6-3 in the third. Better performance from Jay than I've seen in a long time (I only watched the last set and a half). But more conviction in approaching the net, more aggressive ground strokes and hugely more positive body language. Good luck in the next round.

Playing last week's champ looked a rough draw but Jack made a mockery winning 0&1

Yes another 3 good wins today. I do get the feeling that all our players do better when they are together in a group rather than off somewhere remote on their own. Hope they can continue to align their schedules.

Aidan gets the 2nd 6-3. Good win that.

So we just need Paul to win to make it a clean sweep in R32. No pressure. smile

Which we get Paul won 6-2 6-7 6-1

Excellent stuff.  So just to get carried away for a moment, I checked the draw and sadly while its not possible for 2 all GB semi-finals, it is still possible that Brits could take 3 out of the 4 SF slots.

I reckon that would be mightly impressive if it were to happen. It feels like that wouldn't have occurred very often before, if ever (outside of a non-UK event).  Queue someone with a better memory than me to announce it happened a month ago.biggrin

One of the US Challengers about 5 or 6 years ago rings a bell. Im sure Corrie, Smethurst and Evans were close to that at one. I seem to remember 5 or 6 were out together and made a good few quarters and semis. Someone with the data will clarify Im sure.

Im not convinced its happened at a British event at challenger or main tour. We dont typically do well in grass events which they largely are, in terms of depth of numbers getting to that stage

We had a spell where we had Kyle, Liam, Evo and Bedene all winning challengers at around the same time.
I'm pretty sure we have had all GB finals

One that rings a bell is Evans Norrie somewhere in California sure that was a final.

Edit:

Was 2016 in Aptos. Dan won. Also was his 3rd all GB challenger final of that year. Dan lost to Kyle in Dallas but beat Ed Corrie in Drummondville, Canada.

Checked all three draws and no other Brit got past the second round.

Still a long way to go in this tournament...

Any of those involve 3 in the semis ?
