Rotterdam is a Series 1 event. After the Slams, Super Series events are like Masters 1000, and then events like Rotterdam are effectively ATP 500 level status. $32k prizeMoney this week so akin to a challenger given there are 12 players .
In Rotterdam, Alfie beats young up and coming Japanese player Oda, in straight sets.
Into the semis.
Alfie is a mere handful of points behind Kunieda for WR #1, Kunieda is absent from this event. I am not sure enough of the ranking process, but I am sure Alfie must stand a decent chance of going to WR 1 if he wins this week
Alfie reaches the final in Rotterdam where he will play his old foe Fernandez. Not sure but hoping a title will make Alfie number one in the world rankings ?
And Alfie won his final and is champion, well done to him.
He came into the final ranked 2, just a dozen points in 5000 behind number one ranked Kunieda. I dont know enough of the points system to know if what he will get from this adding on less whatever he has coming off, if anything, will be enough to get top spot.
All he could do was win this though , which he did, and fingers crossed for tomorrows rankings update.
