Heather gets 130 points for that first round doubles win - more than available for winning any ITF event except the W100's.
Looking at Live Rankings site, would Heather have dropped below Tara in doubles ranks if she hadn't won today? It looks like she is c 80 points ahead in live standings, so those 130 she gained today limit her losses to a net 110 from current ranking (did she have a lot of points from last year/year before to defend in doubles?)
She has gained 100 from Adelaide and 130 (so far) from the AO. She is dropping 240 points from last year's AO, so actually just -10 points at the moment.
And yes, she would be behind Tara if she hadn't won .
Only half of the doubles draw has been played, so there is still a chance for an Alt place. Where Tara and Emina are in the pecking order I can't say though.

Thanks TA
Live tennis shows her as -110 currently, presumably they are counting the Adelaide results and the -110 is the nett AO position?
Im not going to be able to watch Heather but if she wants to make second week of a slam this is a v v v good opportunity now Muguruza is out. Good luck to her!!!
The form player of latter 2021, (6) Kontaveit, is also out ( beaten by Clara Tauson ) from further up the draw. So the 3rd quarter has already lost ts top 2 seeds, the players seeded to meet in the QF. The top 2 for now are (12) Rybakina and (14) Halep.
Edit : Just realised the one player Kontaveit finally lost to at the end of 2021, in the group stages and final of the WTA tour finals, was Muguruza, and both are gone..
Meantime, Xinyu Wang ( from earlier Wang discussions ) eased to the first set against (2) Sabalenka. Currently though 6-1 *2-4

Does not say too much for the WTA Finals when both finalists lose in the 2nd round of the next Grand Slam. Kontaveit has never done much in the Grand Slams over the years.

You don't sound like a fan of hers...Kontaviet is a regularly 4th round player (not Wimbledon). There's more to tennis than just slams.

Maybe but Emma's fame is based on her Wimbledon performance 2021 and US Open win. Winning a major like Emma is bigger than winning the WTA Finals will ever be.

Sabalenka won in 3 sets. I wonder how many double faults she served.
