L16: Jack Draper WR 207 vs (Q) Maximilian Marterer (GER) WR 210 (CH 45)

Jack has just taken the first set, 6-4, off the 26 year-old German who used to be top-50

Excellent serving - just blasting them past.

Keep it up, Jack.

Amazing defence, and legs, and sheer determination from Jack, gets him the break in the second

Absolutely dominant. And Marterer is no slouch - only 26, previously top 50, tall and big serve

But Jack just had him for breakfast, 6-4 6-2

Jack wins 4 and 2!

Can't be far off having a ranking with a 1 in front of it now?

He was ruthless! 13 aces and won 3/4 break points and over 90% points won on the first serve.

I watched a bit of the match and when he's on that form you can't give him as much time to pick his spot as his opponent allowed him.

Great win.

Shame that probably Bonzi up next, who should really be playing one of the 3 ATP tour level events this week.

Think he is the only top 100 player in a challenger this week.

Agreed Seagull.  But will he be as focused in an $80k Challenger as he would be in an ATP 250?  It could be a great opportunity for Jack, especially on current form?

Yes, if it is Bonzi bring it on and let's see what happens.

I take the point but will be saying the same thing if Andy is still ranked outside the top 60 come clay season and chooses to do the same?

Bonzi is known in France as being a lover of challengers. Interviewers and journalists sort of tease him about it. But he just says he likes to go at his own rhythm. I think he's a bit of a home bird too. He likes the French challengers in particular.

Good week for Jack so far. Keep on challengers for now through to the grass and the atp events at queens, Eastbourne I would say, get near to top 100 by end of grass and then maybe start to play us summer hardcourts qualies. I reckon Jack should be aiming at US Open direct entry. If he keeps this up.
