Harry W has taken the first set off Felix - glad I am not a betting man as nothing seems to be going to my expectations!!

Yeah, I didn't see that coming either ! (And am 20p poorer smile)

But further to discussions on here some while back about our 'Also Ran' 2001 cohort, Harry is certainly showing them the way - and Oscar and Blu and the others are doing pretty well too.

Slightly strange match - wonder if the two of them are friends? Or not?

Brilliant result for Harry, though.

A 25k semi

As you say, Jon, a real break-through week for him .

I read a tweet last week or the week before that Harry hadn't played much outside the UK due to financial reasons and the 1,000 GBP he won at (the British tour or the other one?) would be really helpful.

Well, that's even better then

(Although I thought he was at the Swedish academy for a while - maybe I'm confused - I'll go and look)

But, great news. It's lovely when the local set-up can really help the way forward. Maybe a few sponsors might take note too, now....

Ali Gray def. Oliver Tarvet 6-3 6-4

The score was fair - it was Alastair's match

BUT I thought he'd win far more easily. Partly coz I thought young Tarvet would be dead on his feet after his previous matches.

Not at all. A very good match, quite close, decent level.

Excellent week for Tarvet. Well done to him (think he's off to the States? Or at college in the States already?)

We also know how form can change and quickly. Dan and cam are great examples - dans second half of last year was torrid, partly Covid related, but hes opened this one well; cam had a great last year, started this v poorly but this week is coming back. Definitely wont right anyone off and overall it feels positive

As above, with the average peak age of 26, there was no question of writing anyone off.

But the gloss of the younger lot (which has been wonderful for us as spectators and fans) can't take away that it's been a pretty poor UK season for the higher ranked UK players.

Indeed CD.

It has been really good to see the progress lower down the ranks, especially from young players, and I'd think that our number of players in the top 800, 1000 etc must be at their best in many a year.

And as Jon says it is even looking good for at least getting closer to thatv20 in the top 500, very much closer than I would have imagined a year back. And I take as much interest in that stat as others.

BUT nice as that is, for me it has to be much more about top 200 and then top 100, potential and actual oour players. So I agree thatt it is disappointing if such as Paul and Aidan fail to progress here when the others here have still a long long way to go and much still to prove as they hopefully move up the rankings.

As highlighted elsewhere our leading 6 fit players have  collectively had a pretty good start to the year but then Kyle, Ryan, Paul and Aidan are our only other players in the top 400 just now.  When you add in that Andy is at the stage he is and Kyle is still out for who knows how long, I'd prefer to see Paul and Aidan progressing and impressing more then hope that much lower ranked players are going to come through in time, Though of course I'll be delighted if and when some do.

Ollie off to San Diego State in  the Fall. They have been following his progress on Twitter -

@USDmtennis
San Diego signee Oliver Tarvet continues his stellar week at the #Shrewsbury25K Futures, beating Tibo Colson 76(5) 57 76(4) in 3 hours and 27 minutes to advance to the quarterfinals!
Next up for the 18-year-old is former TCU standout Alastair Gray. Let's go Ollie! #GoToreros

I too thought Harry Wendelken was training in Sweden.

We will have two new players on the doubles rankings as Henry Searle & Tom Welsh win their match. They both play at Wolverhampton TC so a nice moment for them.

Shame there was no odds available as I was willing to put a bit on at decent odds.

Thanks for the news re Ollie T, Elegant Point, and that I wasn't going mad about Harry

Really pleased that Welsh and Searle won (nothing against the other two, of course), just Henry Searle's singles match against Damm was one of my favourite matches recently, and I'm pleased the youngster (born 2006, only 15) has got a doubles point, and a SF place (don't know Welsh at all, never heard of him, but that's all fine )

Good stuff.

If not the performances here I hoped for from Paul and Aidan, still very good to have 3 in the SF. And Alastair in particular I have been following as potentially going to be much higher ranked.

Am I correct that a title win for Ali or Stuart would get them above Billy Harris when the points go on and into number 10 British spot?

Worth fighting for. Their gross points should, not sure what either of them loses off their current haul?
