Dan and Leon not talking it seems, Dan still having a go about the doubles situation; Louis Cayer also seems to be away from the squad as well, or was, with some suggestions of some fallings out there as well
Much truth in what Dan says, as there often is. The trouble is that he is no diplomat!
Andy just seemed a wong doubles pick as quite a number of us commented at the time and before the match and certainly Joe has at least seemed to be nursing an injury though did clock up another US Ooen title with Rajeev.
Whether Dan should have played, or Neal should have been in, or both, to my mind Andy certainly shouldn't have.
It was an extremely questionable pick from Leon who I usually admire but he was pretty defensive that week and some of his 'defence' statements seemed a bit silly. He appeared agitated by folk daring to question him.

that was my read as well, re Leon and Andy.
I would probably have picked Dan and Neal, in retrospect, as well. That said, since then, none of the doubles players incl Dan have done too well, Lloyd just beat Dan and perhaps in 2023 we will see a pairing of Lloyd and Neal , Joe or even Dan come to the fore?

Yes, as usual Dan has a point (which he puts bluntly, the man is no diplomat - and good on him)
The Louis Cayer bit in curious - obviously bad feeling between him and Cam Norrie too
Rather a lot of bad feeling all round really....
Cayer looks like a man to have on board. Right now I'm thinking that maybe Leon though has had his time. Andy's selection for the doubles was crazy ( and some folk will know what a HUGE Andy supporter I have always been ).
Leon's ultra defensive supposed justification of his selections and his apparent falling out with Evans and Cayer when Davis Cup is by its whole nature such a team thing ( and the Billie Jean King is showing the benefit of a happy camp in it together ) indicates to me a man that knows he probably ballsed up
I'm not as such in the 'have to go for doubles specialists' campc( as Cayer is allegedly a proponent of ), though it's a stronger argument when you have doubles players right at the top of the rankings ( albeit not as a regular pair ), just play the most likely team to win - eg prior to the BJK Cup doubles vs Spain I frankly wasn't sure re Lissey & Liv as against.Harriet & Heaher ( though Lissey & Liv may he winning me over ) because I wasn't sure who was most likely to win. Our Davis Cup pair as selected was less likely to win than other options.
I'm sure this has nothing to do with the fact that at the next tie (providing everyone is fit) Dan is unlikely to be picked for singles...
:)
Why wouldn't he be picked, Cam, Jack, Dan and 2 others.
I took thar to mean actually play the singles as opposed to being in the squad, which clearly he should be. But whatever,, as I said, I highly doubt that that's been in Dan's thinking.
Australia beat Netherlands in the opening tie 2-0 - two very long 3 setters as Thompson beat Griegspoor and De Minaur beat van de Zandschulp. Doubles not played.
