Mayot is 20.

He was junior WR 1

And won the Australian Open (juniors), got to the semis at Wimbledon.

Basically, France's new big hope.

And then got injured a bit, didn't really take off, and has got completely outshone by the new wave of French kids who are doing extremely well.

Which must have been (and still be) quite tough for him.

Well done Alistair! I just watched a bit of him for the first time - against Breut. Reminds me a lot of Mahut in playing style. Are all his matches so full of entertaining rallies? Really enjoyed the bits I watched. https://livestream.com/atp/events/10280205

That's a really good call biggrin

I'd never thought of that but you're quite right, he does put you in mind of Mahut - even from the back of the court, something about the rather 'spindly leg' style of play. Spot on.....

Good - consolidating the top 250 spot.
You never know top 200 might even get an upgrade to MDWC for Wimbledon

So, chance for Ali to get an unwelcome title off his back - the highest ranked player to have not won a challenger level match

https://tennisabstract.com/reports/ATP_BestWhoHavent.html

Mayot is not a bad opportunity to get that first win at this level
