Remind me - do the men get a point for qualifying like the women?

 No they don't.

So all the the MD wildcards bar one are all youngsters, hot off last week's nationals

Will Jansen, Luca Pow, Louis Bowden

and Oscar Weightman

Seems perfectly sensible.....

Not too bad a draw for Luca v Billy Harris. Half a chance of an upset.

billy versus Luca stands out but also Mike Shaw versus Bemelmans is really interesting. Indeed, Bemelmans playing here is a really good opportunity for a number of our lads to test themselves

Mike Shaw v Bemelmans is interesting? Poor Mike will be lucky to win 4 games.....

There are lots of very close potential matches (Anton v Brandon, Charles v Edan, Jan v Roy....)

And, yes, will be interested to see how Luca and Will do.

But not sure I'd put Mike up as a match I'm going to schedule in....

To me it is! A marker for him to see what is needed to be a pro in this game, Bemelmans maybe a journeyman but hes had some success and been in a Davis Cup final, famously. Im sure he will win very easily but its a great opportunity for Mike to do more than 4 games, and if he gets 4 games, thats cool .

Sorry, Jon - still don't see the difference between Mike's match and Sean playing Hiroki. Or Josh playing Escoffier. Obviously all three are huge underdogs. They may well do better than expected. One may have an amazing win. But what's different and special about Mike v Bemelmans?

Bemelmans is the difference - hes been top 100, played 2 Davis Cup finals. For me it just makes him a bigger name at this level of the game, hes won Cherbourg a few weeks back at Challenger level. So he just stands out as a big fish.

as I said, there are lots of interesting matches, definitely the two you also

mention. But Bemelmans just caught my imagination.

that should be enough, I hope?

Hes also been to third round of Wimbledon and US Open as well; his highest rank is 84, Moriya hasnt won a slam match and his high is circa 140. Not sure Antoinne has been top 200? Bemelmans just has much more star quality even if he is 3rd seed right now - star quality being a relative term, I realise hes not a Goffin or the like.

presumably we have rain in Nottingham? Outdoors in April, early April, is always going to be hit and miss?

Presumably with it being Nottingham they can use the indoor courts as they see fit with the schedule?
