A fairly disappointing day / round you'd have to say. Jodie and Anna did what they were expected to do against big 5/1+ British WCs / Qs (and one of those will obviously now make the QF), and Eden came through a 50/50 against her lower ranked opponent. The other 6 were all underdogs in their respective matches, but a shame at least one of them couldn't have pulled off a big, less expected win, as there were plenty of them in the previous (far more exciting) home W25 events earlier in the year.

I fancy Anna to beat Jodie, certainly if Anna plays her top game and Jodie doesnt improve it will be close I reckon.

If Jodie plays at a good level for her, she should not only win this match but the tournament as well. She needs to get points so perhaps that will concentrate the mind.

The incentive Jodie has is that she needs to reach the final to stand a chance of getting into Roland Garros qualifying. Getting to the SF will only move her ranking up to the mid 240s. Getting to the final will move her up to around 232. It would also be good if she can get her ranking up and free up a Wimbledon qualifying wild card, but she has more opportunities for that. This is her last opportunity for Roland Garros.

I don't rate Anna that highly but I would almost fancy anyone to beat Jodie at the moment. I mean, Jodie 'should' have beaten Ranah, and she did, but she made life really difficult for herself in the second set.

Anna only squeaked past Dani (although that's not a criticism, Dani and Anna aren't far off in levels, IMO) but could certainly cause an upset.

I'm going for Jodie to win the first set easily. Then to have real problems in the second. It's her go-to match.

Overall, I'd go for Jodie to win, she's miles above Anna really - but it would be no real surprise if she didn't.

(Allez Jodie - now win it 2 &3)

Yes. I agree with you CD. We need Jodie to show how well she can play.

I watched a bit of Jodie's match against Ranah and pretty much every point I saw was determined by Jodie either winning it with some beautiful tennis or losing it with a hopeless UE.  I suspect today's match will be similar - hers to either win or lose depending how she reacts as the match progresses.  I really hope she can can hold it all together and produce her best tennis.

Yes, as I said earlier Jodie losing to Anna would he a bit of a shocker. Even at the best she has shown Anna simply isn't of a level that should trouble Jodie.

But Jodie certainly is well capable of playing down a level or 3 so as SuperT says, how the match turns out is likely to be very much down to Jodie.

Oof Eden is frustrating to watch. One minute she constructs a point so beautifully you could weep, then the next return sails long.

Was expecting a closer match. Radwanska lost in 2 sets this month to Eudice Chong who narrowly defeated Talia who sustained an injury in the match.
