Week 18 - ATP 1000 - Madrid, Spain (outdoor clay)

Marvellous, well done. Really good pairing this is proving - I hope they get a decent run in France or at Wimbledon! For now, a final tomorrow versus Jamie would be nice !

6th final of 2022! Quite brilliant start to the season for them.

Wow!  biggrin  Hadn't appreciated that, but then, I wasn't exactly in a good position to keep track of events earlier in the year... hmm

No divided loyalties for that one!

Really good win for Jamie and a good event for him so far - he and Venus have done pretty well together on the clay, shame he has to play with Bruno again next week!!

I read that Jamie is partnering Venus again in Rome.

That'll be another world number one that Mr Murray (A) has beaten!

(... technically not whilst at the rank, but still)

Just been watching a video entitled Carlos Alcaraz Future World Nº1 but filmed in 2019 at the Barcelona Open.  The video is not specifically about him but he appears in it and does a brief lighthearted interview.

I won't bother posting it here as it is in Spanish, but those 'in the know' here in Spain have seen this coming for quite some time now.

Yes, but I think you'll also find similar videos in Italy about Sinner. Or Canada about Felix.

Which is not to say those won't be right at some time in the future....

But what I mean is all the countries will be pushing their little star, and then say they weren't surprised when it happens. Apart from the fact that for most, it won't actually happen.

BUT Spain actually seems to have got it right smile

I remember Alcaraz winning some Challenger (I think) in Trieste in 2020 and thinking 'wow' and then, of course, he had that crazy ATP 500 in Vienna when he beat Dan Evans and then Andy. And then the amazingly impressive Next Gen event. Really great to see such talent (and especially as he beat Djoko biggrin)

I dont see Felix or Sinner at that level, the way hes going Alcaraz could dominate on his own, certainly on clay. Hes seems a nice fella as well. Been impressed by Rune as well, or Wayne as Andy has nicknamed him
